I rode these three lovely ladies yesterday.

Will still do write ups but I was very surprised by what I liked and what I didn't like.

MyBB ;)

There are two things, the first is handling your bike. SlinkyMike covered an excellent exercise to get you going there. Beyond that there really isn't much more to do. It is all just different low speed manoeuvres.
Second is how to ride defensively, and that you may already know from your scooter days. If not... MyBB :p

edit: a simple thing to get in the habit of, I prefer to cover my brake/clutch levers. This means I always have two fingers resting on the levers so if needed I can engage them a little bit earlier than if they were resting on the handlebars.

I also cover the levers (a habit I picked up with my scooter, for some reason). I will be sure to find a parking lot and practice this weekend! As for driving defensively, yeah, I think I have that covered, especially after I broke my knee...

Copa, if you don't mind me asking, how much did that bike set you back? Also looking at getting one soon and yours seems really nice.

28K, almost perfect condition (dropped once, from a standing start) and with 6K KM on the clock. Know the owner personally - He is VERY careful with his possessions.

Gawd I am so jealous. Riding in JHB is nice. But a cup of tea is "nice". To be able to ride in CPT

I think I'd be terrified on a bike in Joburg, frankly.

How was the NineT?

A **** load of fun. Actually the most real world fun of all three at reasonable speeds too.

It's very similar to my Buell in that it's a BMW with a massive engine. And that twisting force is just insane.

But it's not the right bike for my (primary) needs.

Very keen to see what the RnineT Scrambler is like though.

I bet the 1200RS was a great ride.... the LC Boxer is plenty powerful and it delivers torque from low revs all the way through to the red... If it has the same box as the GS (no quick shift assist), then it could be a wee bit clunky, but I'm sure great fun.

Interesting - it has successfully tempted many a R1200GS/GSA rider to make the switch.

Off the top of my head...

Terrible clutch (cable for some reason, both others were hydraulic). Heavy and didn't release fully in one motion although it was at friction point already.

Although seat is great and leg angle is awesome the bars being so high put more strain on my arms and shoulders. The RS which I expected to be uncomfortable due to it's sporty nature...was probably the most comfortable bike I've ever been on.

Also very cramped...right foot constantly touching the exhaust heat shield. hardto "meerkat" even though you would never really go offroad with it.

Unstable to say the least. Some people might like this and might even be looking for it but where the RS and R9T were on rails in comparison this felt like it had a flat tyre when leaned over...and it didn't I even made sure.

Yes it's a crazy engine and it makes a luvely noise when closing throttle but it just doesn't suit the chassis. At the price I can't justify it and would say either buy the RS for less money...or go full blown S1000 and kry klaar.

Oh and the BUZZING is real. Both through the bars as well as through your ass from presumably the chain.

Then the height makes the RS win out for my personal preferences. It's not unmanageable but I would prefer a bit more footing of course.

Overall it just seems like a compromised solution for a whole lot of money.

This one had the Assist Pro and I would actually fork out the money to have it.

It's the bike I expected to like the least...and the one I'll probably end up buying.

I'm considering ordering the gear assist pro for my GS ... that downshift blip ... grrr  Plus when standing, not having to clutch must be damn comfy...

The balance of the boxer though is phenomenal, great engine, lovely sound.

So non-chain drive is nothing new to you then... It's my main concern with the BMW. Never ridden a shaft driven bike. Glad to hear it has grunt at low speeds. Somehow I imagine that it only comes into it's own on log straight highway rides. I know that's probably nonsense/ignorance.

I don't feel any difference between chain drive and shaft drive... Nice not to have to lube a chain though ;)

Well I've bought most of gear so far. Bought the HJC IS-17 helmet, RST Ventilator jacket and RST TracTech evo gloves. Also bought a CE armour back protector.

What are your guys thoughts on a VFR 400 as a starter bike?

So, my first bike. Got a good deal on a CBR 250R. I've had it for about four hours, and my inaugural ride was, erm, well - You gotta start somewhere. Changing gears with my left foot is extraordinarily confusing.

Loving it, but I can tell I'm going to be fantasizing about something more meaty sooner rather than later.
