edit: and you actually proved me right, you trust nobody on BMW to even touch your bike... so then you'd never have been happy with any fix they presented. Goal posts shifted yet again

Please read properly: They do not have the tools/equipment to do so. Therefore: unable. So, a part that requires replacement every 40 hours of use is irregular? That's less than 10k service intervals on the bigger bikes....

You design things. Wonderful. What things? Parts? Bushes? Cars? Bikes? Engines? Stanchions? Fancy Tools? Do tell and share examples of what you've designed, I'd love to see your prowess - after all, someone designed the stanchions & press fit for BMW, someone designed the Ford Kuga, and also, someone designed the Ford Edsel..... and let us never forget the Ford Pinto that someone designed.

Sorry to reject your reality, there is no tirade. Lovely designers creative imagination! I'd be perfectly happy if one of the mechanics I trusted were doing the work, and, even more importantly, believed the fix was a viable and proper fix.

Lastly, the only goal posts being shifted are those in your head. Must be the creative mind you have for designing?

Then I would ask why is the part so ****...

The point was they might be willingly making themselves unable.

Choosing not to do the work and therefore not having the tools to do so is very different from being unable to do so.

I choose to no longer work on Apple hardware and therefore also no longer have the tools. Doesn't mean I'm unable to do the work if it were required of me.

You've obviously never owned a 2-Stroke? Recommended replacement is 40 hours. We run them to 100 hours as experience has taught us that this can be done safely.

It's the vehicular equivalent of Ford shipping your car out to have valve clearances done as they don't stock the shims. Standard maintenance item, surely the dealers should have the tools & know how?

Possibly also explains why the market is contracting - I learnt yesterday that apparently Centurion Yamaha is closing shop. :(
 
More likely that the only company that actually attempts to sell you a motorcycle in Centurion is Bavarian. All the other look at you funny when you walk in and do not have bikes available for test rides even if you make an appointment.

So we've gone from BMW does nothing RAWR (fitting the same faulty part, which is plain wrong if you actually read the link), to BMW is doing something but I think it sucks RAWR (they fit a new bush which is a joke), to half half attempts at insults, to BMW can't do anything properly anyway RAWR (lol, only 3 people who can touch your bike), to a discussion about 2 stroke engines apparently... But I'm ducking and diving... Seems about right

May I ask that you exercise some intelligence & go back to page 296.

Where I stated: BMW has known about this & issued a recall for it in 2013. So why is it still happening on 2014 to 2017. BANG: your RAWR BMW does nothing about it shot down. Sorrie hoor.
I then said that the inspection recall was a waste of time. Part needed to be replaced. Which they will do by inserting an extra bush. I still RAWR think that sucks. I would not trust it. Sorrie hoor.

An example was given of why I do not trust many dealers & their mechanics, you chose to let it distract you, Sorrie hoor.

Thankfully I managed to stay focused through you veiled insults, innuendos and attempts to distract through self from the point. The point was, and still is, a potentially fatal flaw in the 1200 GS & GSA's, & I do not believe the proposed fix is a long term solution, nor do I believe that all of our local dealers are capable of implementing it properly. You clearly do.

I'm still genuinely interested to hear what you design though?

In other news. My front fork seals have finally been serviced (actually some two weeks ago). The difference is amazing compared to just before the work was done, although I think I still need to reset the compression /rebound settings back to default.
 
Whilst there may be a RIP thread, this one is more appropriate to the Biking thread.

RIP Blackie Swart, a long time stalwart of the biking fraternity, & one of the founding three of the revived Think Bike campaign in the mid 2000's.

Taken far too soon, he will be missed by his wife, sons family & friends.

Ride the skyways & enjoy those rum & cokes with the Buccaneer. RIP my friend. :(
 
Anyone riding/tested a Ninja 650 - thoughts as a daily driver?

And yes I do, because I understand what the issue is and you do not. Therefore I understand how the proposed solution is fixing it, and you do not.
