Yeah. Must say, having to rebuy all that stuff is not the most fun. :(
I've been wondering about their CE certification, and whether or not they use the CE meant for bicycles as opposed to motorcycles.
Go down the rabid hole of CE certification on back armor. You suddenly exclude a huge amount of the more common manufacturers.

Really? What did you find? Which brands would you exclude?

The default answer is everyone. A lot of the manufacturer (Alphine for instance) offers the CE back protector as an optional upgrade or maybe the flagship jacket in the range has it included (BMW for instance).

Went to their website and they seem quite good. I'm a bit hesitant to give another local brand a go though. How much were they if you don't mind me asking? How much of a difference would there be between something like this and pair of AlpineStars at +/-R1k.

I think that it was between R500 and R600

I'm seriously considering getting a full body suit like the Leatt 5.5 and pairing that with an off road shirt on top. Cooler to use and you get some variety by using different shirts which is cheaper than new jackets. Plus you know you're getting full CE level 2 protection. Plus, if it's rainy, chuck on a rain jacket, if it's cold add in some layers.

I know the abrasion resistance isn't great, but with a full suit it seems like it should be fine.

I'll have a look at them this weekend. Sent their head office an email and asked about returns or warranty's or expected lifetimes, but they haven't responded yet. :(

Give them a call instead. They are actually quite helpful. Spoke to a lady there (can't remember her name) and she pointed me in the direction of a few of their resellers. GPS4Africa was more reasonably priced (and closer to home for me). There is also a brand that Reconstructed Centurion has - so if you are in the are, check them out. Nice gloves - just can't remember the brand though.

Thought I'd post a pic of spirit gloves after < year. Bearing in mind, I didn't have an off barring falling over whilst standing still as a n00b does..

Shocking.

I had Arlen Ness gloves go through a crash and 70m slide look better than that.

Not really shocking for Spirit. I have Alpinestars Drystar winter gloves and the clutch-index has developed a hole within two winters.

I wish all gloves can account for that finger.

Never had that problem personally.

Maybe you grip too hard?

Yeah. Went to bikerswarehouse to show them what the crap they sell look like after a year, then they tried to push into Metalize gloves....

Went to guts and gas, they are ordering some EVS road gloves for me.

See, that's why I don't want to drop more than R1k and have it wear out before it served its purpose.

Looks like i need a new battery, best I've found is this http://motorbikebatteries.co.za/product-tag/yt12a-bs/, looking everywhere else bike batteries are damn near the same price as car batteries.

Whilst I was at guts and gas, someone was there asking about batteries. I asked as mine is also giving notice. They endorse a product called Motobatt, but he estimates that for the GS it's gonna be about R1300. However, they seem to be the best motorbike batteries available, go read some reviews.

I wasn't hating on metalize as much as the salesman telling me: "Nah, EVS doesn't exist anymore, the new brand is metalize."

At that moment they lost me as a customer. I had already told him I don't like the metalize as they have their branding freakin everywhere. Those still look though, but I'm going to an international brand. :(

I Didn't perceive it as hate, to be honest i too don't like branding everywhere regardless of the brand, i also knew nothing about gear when i bought those gloves, it was the first bike gear i bought (i bought head to toe), i in-fact collected it all the morning i fetched the bike, just glad it all worked out. The price of these things i can't afford to be replacing things all the time.

I bought everything in one go as well. :( Just sad that the things are falling apart. You bought a good purchase :)

those deltec batteries are fine and that's a decent price go for it.

Great, and its gel too. I'll buy more premium on the next one, i plan on selling this bike within 2 years with this battery i'll be buying now.
Bike sits on a solar panel now else its dead within 2 days, at least i have a jump start power bank i keep with me when i go out so i'm good for now.
