Kawasaki KLR650 awesome commuter and value for money but you will have to keep an eye on the oil. :erm:

Dude, save for some boots. Salomons will not suffice for safety purposes on a motorcycle.

I shudder to think of a situation where the boots in question would not suffice, as they are pretty tough. But yes, full everything is no doubt the way to go.

Hi copacetic... as the only person who has ever downgraded a bike...

I started on an old "CBR250" top speed 180.
I replaced it with an ER6N (54kw) 2nd hand.. didn't trust the brakes and steering. The acceleration was nice but not a big deal for my commute.
I tested NC700's and GS650's, but settled on a CBR500 due to.. seat height/ok weight/not as worried anymore about dropping it on the fairings/at least 10 years of problem free transport.

Those are 3 classes of acceleration with the CBR500 in the middle and sufficient indefinitely for commuting IMHO.
On the down side.. I also hate the colour and it is not as much fun as even the CBR250's power curve... more practical though.

The old CBR250's / new CBR300 / Ninja 300 / Duke 390 make some overtaking more tedious but it is still sufficient.
I doubt that the KTM would run for 10 years problem free though.

Ankle support and energy dissipation.

Most boots either don't have a strong enough ankle support and so it will just snap. Those that do will simply transfer the energy from the impact...to the ankle and indirectly break it anyway.

Proper made for purpose bike boots resolve both situations.

They need not be super expensive. You can get Thor waterproof and calf height boots from Trac Mac for R1399 or so as I recall.

Oh by the way I just did 40km in this weather and I got home mostly dry expect for my feet because I'm wearing summer boots that leak.

Ever so slightly damp in the ass where my jacket and pants have a gap, but even that I'm not sure is really wet and might just be cold.

My gear is obviously super wet, but as long as it's designed not to transfer to the clothes underneath that's fine.

Hi guys, this is my first post in this particular thread :)

I managed to spring a leak in my front brake line (it was the standard rubber line, needed to come to a stop from a high speed). Need to source some good quality steel braided lines so I dont have this problem again. Does anyone have a supplier for braided brake lines?

Don't know you from a bar of soap so if you're a mechanical wunderkind please ignore this... but I am an idiot at the best of times, spanners confuse me so I would not want to mess with my brakes. This would most definitely be a job for an experienced mechanic.

If he knows the difference between plain rubber and braided he'll most likely be OK.

Dont worry, I know how to change the brake lines, it's quite easy. Just don't know where to get the lines from :)

It's really not hard.

But his location would really help. And possibly bike as well.

I'm going on a proper ride for what feels like the first time in ages :D Been getting all my stuff ready during the week, just need to throw on my bags and I'm good to go (yes, my inner 5 year old is showing itself). Pity it won't be that cold this weekend, it is half of the adventure of going to Sutherland. Hopefully I haven't forgotten how to ride on dirt :erm:

I'm sad to say that I haven't even done a single over nighter with my Triumph. And very few breakfast runs.

It's the problem with being a commuter and having friends who mostly do offroad now.

Archer remind me what you are riding again? Mostly offroad I take it?

That S1000XR is looking mighty tasty, will have to see end of next year.

Dis one :D I ride anywhere really. The offroad stuff is typically a weekend trip, on road stuff with my wife for breakfast runs or just to zone out for an hour or two (and the commute of course)

You must shout out when you do a run again that doesn't require a BMW for entry.

@Archer ... Nice ride you got! Aint nothing like a Beemer ;)

Just washed my Baby today, did a 400km ride last Sunday, she was a wee bit Dirty... Was a really good Ride!!!
