BMW RnineT actually pulls itself upright when you rev I through some slower corners.

Don't feel it so much on the liquid cooled boxers.
 
So I've been doing the bike shopping thing as you know. I discovered this and it got me thinking.

It's distributed locally through Bigboy, though is NOT one of their bikes. The reviews are quite positive with only minor gripes overall. It's essentially a copy of the Kawasaki ER-6N, with top speed of about 202km/h vs the Kawas 216km/h.

I sat on it and while it may be a little higher than I would choose, I may be able to have the seat/shocks adjusted as to ride height as I'm only 5'7" (1.70m).

It's R60,000 for a brand new bike. Comes with 3yr/20,000km warranty.

In the same price range you're looking at quite second-hand bikes.

Anybody owned/ridden one of these? Any thoughts?
 
dont do it.
when I got my superlight I found reviews, spoke to owners looked up everything I could to make sure I was not buying a hole.

it didnt matter, the bike was a POS.

when looking for a bike ask yourself, when your dad was your age, could he buy that brand in south africa? if the answer is no, they have not proven themselves yet. let someone else go though the teething problems.

for R60K you have so many better options in the second hand market.

Well this is partially the thing, many of the reviews I've read/watched have referenced the Hyosung etc equivalents and said that this ISN'T cheap *** like those, they have a quality feel etc.

Key for me is the warranty, that's my largest concern with second hand. Warranty is questionable and I don't know how they've been ridden.

I had a 2 year warranty on mine.
I still ended up paying R24K over 3 years on out of warranty faults
the bike was only R22K BTW...


but honestly, ratehr spend 40K on something like a BWM 650 GS, put the remaining 20K into a service plan (or a savings account that you top up by a bit every month)
much much better than getting one of those chineese things, will never trust a brand that is that new again.

See a bike like that is waaaaay to big for me. Mkay I shall keep looking but not ruling that one out just yet.

I'm a bit taller @ 1.75m and manage perfectly fine on a KLR650 :)

I rode a mate's CBR600RR once and even that felt too small for me. I am not sure how his 1.9m frame felt on it but I am guessing pretty claustrophobic.

The 'big bike' thing is a mind trick; if all else fails you can always have the seat shaven a bit or add lowering links if you want

Too big physically, or the engine size? If the latter remember that it is tuned for torque, not power, and as such is much easier to handle.

Personally I wouldn't do it. I've had enough dealership experiences with established well known brands that I would never touch Big Boy even if they didn't build it.

I've also known enough people who had had Big Boys or related bikes serviced there and it's not worth it.

Not saying the MT-07 is the one to have (budget considered) but I would keep an eye on their page. You can have the very same 2-year warranty and less hassles.

Warranty is only as good as the people supporting it...and Big Boy isn't very good at that.

Get up close and personal with it, many had lowered suspension kits from factory and might not be as big as you think.

Physically, as is I barely touch tip toes at a robot, not really my ideal scene.

Do you a bank will finance a 12 year old bike though? I can't buy this cash obviously. I like the MT, maybe a better option. How is Fire It Up WRT customer services/ bike services?

They are up in Jo'burg so I don't have personal experience of them but have heard very many good things.

They organise all the finance so I'm sure it's not a problem. Quite honestly though I didn't even see the model year, but even so it's worth a look.

If you are financing anyway then maybe the MT-07 wouldn't be too far out of reach? It's a superb bike and should also sort out the height problem easily enough.

But it's worth making contacting with them when going to have a look to tell them what kind of thing you are looking for and in what budget. Their whole setup of 2-year warranty with new tyres etc is a very good proposition.

They aren't the cheapest. Alternatively you could buy elsewhere and simply bolt-on a 2-year warranty through Wesbank.

Anyone dealt with Cayenne on Kyalami? They look very big, might pop past there on Friday. Been to fire it up before, think I'll go on Saturday.

boring old me looking at commuters got no service whatsoever.
