dont think they will want it. though it does look good. :p

plus I dont want to sell it, I want to fix it and ride it again. it is by far the most comfortable ride I have ever had.
but who knows, maybe they have another engine/crank in the shop there for my bike.

I have called again this week, thinking, hey, its been a few months.

nope nothing.

wondering about other engines that might fit, but I cant find any clear cut answers on that because of the fact that it is shaft driven.
so the engine needs to fit the current gear box.

its jsut a headache. I am a developer with a slight technical knowhow not an engineer

the international Virago forum check it often, posted a question, got no answer. figured that was the best place to ask...

I have never heard of it happening with those older bikes though.

In fact mine in itself is a serious rarity as I don't know of another case.

In general they have a very good and solid reputation as being good engines, I was just bloody unfortunate.

I think they're probably a lot more expensive to maintain than the MT 07 or Z750 would be though, may be a factor to think about.

During daylight hours it makes you far more visible to other road users. At night of course you lose some brightness for yourself, but in well lit areas it doesn't matter. Bike dependant you can get covers that only cover one of the brights/headlights, leaving you options for night time. Otherwise simply take it off, most are only velcro'd on anyway.

They are also legal, don't let anyone tell you otherwise

Depends on where you plan to take it really.

MT 07 has only 2 spark plugs, while the Z750 has four so it sits in the middle there.

They all run fully synthetic oil etc so between them it's much of a muchness really.

Hmm good point. Prior to Koeberg, did you have any issues with yours?

Apart from a little paint problem it was bulletproof UpTo 30000km when I knew something was wrong.

Dealership diagnosed it as nothing but a sensor when the oil light flickered and ordered a new one.

32000km replaced sensor and didn't work and then finally listened when I said something is badly wrong as it vibrates through the throttle.

Had to put the stock pipe on before they took me seriously.

Turns out it had thrown a big end bearing and was already eating another...And still running so you have to give it points for that.

The suspicion was that the oil pressure relief valve had failed and/or the oil pump and wasn't putting enough oil through.

Almost 100k later in labour and parts and she was rebuilt.

I did another 4000km happily and then sold it more for comfort reasons that anything else (I had suffered since I bought it) and I believe the new owner had done another few thousand kilometers trouble free.

So it was a hit of an anomaly. It was a great bike until then.

I would have an STR again over a Z750 any day. Those inline four nakeds just have no character.

You can get parts for your bike at a price .

Yamaha still has some parts as well , a crank can be built up with hard chrome and reground .

I've since been diagnosed with Crohn's disease.

So mostly my back and wrists but not necessarily the bike's fault. It just amplified my condition.
