Haha. I also do the one click, but it does let the rain in.

You probably go to work at the crack of dawn.

I walk a toddler to school first so have a good chance to survey the weather.

Not to say that I get there perfectly bone dry, but a little splash up the shins doesn't really bother me.

As long as my socks are dry I reckon that qualifies as dry.

Sportmans warehouse (swimming section) sells an anti-fog spray. I think Arena makes it. Last bought for R150. Worked like a charm on my MX goggles. Its made for plastic.

The visor isn't warped. Your base plates just need adjusting.

But C-Thru/Rainex also goes a long way on the outside to keep the rain off so you can see.

Not sure I would trust it on the inside but worth a try.

Mr.Min is a handy alternative if you don't want to specially go buy something.

With the visor off the helmet I can see the pinlock isn't making proper contact all the way round. Wouldn't know how to adjust the base plate regardless, only has one screw and looks like it's basically only got one position to be in.

But just need to survive the winter, then I'll probably get a new helmet (this one is now 4 years of every day riding)

Yeah odds are the pinlock itself has warped if that is not sealing onto the visor any more. Could just replace that but they aren't cheap either.

As for the visor it should seal on the helmet. You unscrew the base plate and then it slides around until you can see the visor sealing on the gasket and then you tighten it again. Easier on some helmets than others but they do loosen and go out of spec over time and it's considered user serviceable.

You say rain comes in when you open it one lick? From the sky or off your windscreen? In serious weather I need to drop my windscreen otherwise it also comes straight off into my face. Whether visor open or not it's a big visibility issue.

What helmet is it?

Try the C-Thru or Mr.Min but be sure to polish it off again properly after applying.
 
I've already replaced the pinlock with no success. I've even tried sealing the gaps between pinlock and visor with something (don't remember what) but it still fogs up. The visor also seals properly against the gasket on the helmet.

And of course rain will get in at one click, its open by like 10cm. The fog detent would probably be fine, but not during rain (when stopped).

Does your pinlock insert fog up, or does it fog up on the visor underneath the insert?

Opinion on Spirit helmets? They've been around for some time now, can't really find anybody having anything bad to say about them (no more than for any manufacturer out there).

They are ECE approved (and SABS if that really matters), half the price of the equivalent Shark (maybe due to it being locally manufactured?!). Anybody here own one or care to comment?

Locally rebranded maybe, certainly not manufactured.

SABS means jack ****.

Friend's one game apart (literally bolts coming loose) without even crashing.

There simply isn't enough safety information to risk it.

How much is your brain worth?

Mine is certainly worth a lot more than taking that chance.

Helmets shouldn't be chosen based on opinions but actual safety testing instead.

If you want cheap-er but super safe helmets look at the Bell range.

But that's what I don't get, they are ECE approved so surely they must be safe. Except for your one friend, who else has complained (think I read his post on an old Think Bike thread)... the guy kissing his wife goodbye at a school and half the helmet coming loose? Also that is quite a few years ago.

I'll probably get myself a Skwal for peace of mind but I wonder how much better the Shark's really are.
