You need to do a morning run down the R59 towards vereeningngingigningng... through the dip near the suikerbosrand river.

So... It's too cold to use my summer gloves... And too warm to use my winter gloves comfortably - my hands get sweaty.

I ran out of petrol last night just after 7PM for the first time since owning a bike. The cold was numbing enough to make me forget I had a reserve tank for a good ten minutes. That was a not so fun ten minutes spent on the side of the road.

I had an opportunity to use the bike today, but the flash backs from last year when it felt like I'm getting frost bite in my fingers kept me from using it. Also I stay vaal side work in sandton, so it's not a short quick ride.

Really felt it this morning, but the dip on the N1 at Olifants and the crossing the Jukskei give a new meaning to 'P$$s Koud'

When I left home this morning, it was 2 deg.

The coldest I saw it get was 0 deg, and I was doing 110km/h. Heated grips do not save your fingers!!! When I got to robots, I put my hands on each on the boxer motor's heads to warm my hands up, and it didn't help much at all.

My hands were nice and warm this morning. The car gave an ice\frost warning though. Poor bastards outside :(

This will sound counter intuitive but try the lower 1 setting instead of 2.

You’ll sometimes find that what you perceive as being cold is actually too hot and it’s more burning that you are feeling that cold.

The 2 setting on BMW’s are meant for “quick heat” and not prolonged use.

That makes sense!

Same here.
I saw black frost/ice warnings, and have had a moment in my car on William Nicol in the past, so decided to ensure that moments remain in the car, rather than on the bike.

You must have dibeetus cause heated grips were the difference twixt frostbite for me or not in the Karoo at 2am 3.3 degrees C 140kph
They get so hot I have to turn them off at a certain point
Heated seat sucks though wires finished and BMW want 5k for new seat

I feel the difference on my hands and until the 1st digit on my finger. After that, my fingers freeze.
