1400 is fast by nature of the 1400cc of displacement, you are a brave man. I'm still trying to convince the wife on getting a new bike, it was hard enough getting the first one.... Lol any tips from the elders?

Not so. It's fairy quick in a straight line, capable of reaching 100 in under six seconds, but that's it. It won't corner at the speed of light, and it tops out at around 160. There are plenty of bikes with half its capacity that will run away from it.

As for your question, I can't help there. The bike was out of necessity and not something I wanted, so no convincing required.

Combination of cost and new-rider nerves I would guess.

If this is the case, the NC is perfect. Get a second hand one. Even after your jitters are gone, the NC is still a proper big bike with enough top end not to get too bored. I think they are going to outgrow those small fries rather quickly.

Haha! Look, this has definitely crossed my mind. Which is why I was pleased to see that guys who have reviewed them have said that even after a while, these bikes are still great fun. At the end of the day, being the conservative type I am, I would rather get on a first bike I will outgrow, then be a nervous wreck on a bigger bike and risk injuring myself or others the first time I get on the road. I'm happy to play the long game when it comes to biking (which I think, for me anyway, is the right way to go).

Fair enough. I was following the exact same line of thought, and I ended up settling on getting a F700GS - second hand. Purely, because:
-Second hand they are priced around the same as a new GS310.
-Get a second hand bike as your first bike, as you'll probably drop it
-More future proof, won't get bored as quick
-Still beginner friendly, parallel twin making not too much power
-Safer, has more electronic ability to get your ass out of sticky situations
-Weight isn't much more than the smaller bikes
-More extras included, getting a second hand F700 you're likely to already have heated grips/centre stand/ crash bars and the like, whereas these are items you'll probably add in quickly if you're getting a new bike any way.

So that was my thought process. My bike is reserved, now just need to write and pass learners and hey presto.

Agreed. 2 years later and my 650 is not cutting it anymore.

BTW hows the Mt doing ? popping wheelies yet?
Pox was spot on when he said it's a combination of cost and new rider nerves that makes the 300-400 appealing, I was so nervous I started on a 200 just to get an idea of how a bike feels.

What is it that makes you outgrow a 650 I'm sure it can do well over 140km/h is it just the pure need for speed that makes one outgrow a bike?

Just curious because I hear it alot, I know I need a upgrade coz I'm tired of being left at the light by delivery bikes, and overtaken by trucks on the freeway . But I think I'll be happy for many years on a 300/400

Edit: and better safety like abs of cause...

The reason i started on the 650 is in the long run its a cost saving. keeping in mind i rode offroad bikes so i knew how to ride at least. but buying a small bike the a few months later selling and getting a bigger bike is going to cost you.

Remember different engines produce power different;y as mentions before so my 650 is pretty strong i've topped it out (on a closed circuit of course  ) at 222km/h.

For me its mainly speed yes but also how it delivers it. i want a higher top speed yes but also more torque, currently i have to keep the bike in the right rpm to have fun, don't get me wrong its not like i have to be at 8k rpm the parallel twin has good low down torque but not enough for me anymore. Its taken 2 years for me to really want a bigger bike.

not yet... BUT... it went in for it's 1000km service yesterday... get back on the bike when fetching it... look at the clocks and go "hmmm... have I always ridden it in STD mode? Let's switch to Mode A" :wtf: I don't know if placebo effect, but i can sure as fukk feel a LOT more power and just pure unadulterated anger! :D

Mode A is now Standard Mode. ;)

And that's why the NC is the safer option. It gives you the "easy" option as a n00b, but will last you a lot longer before it gets meh.

The NC for me just doesn't have the acceleration. It can do 170 very easily and I have taken mine to full taps at 194.

I think if you're not an adrenaline junkie and mostly commute, you won't outgrow an NC750.

Personally a cbr250 was too slow for overtaking but my cbr500 is fast enough indefinitely (similar to nc750).

Also some "sport" bikes like the cbr500 are pretty comfortable.

Hey guys. Does anyone know how much cash I need to take with to the licencing department to put a bike/car in my name?

I am not sure if you can even purchase a bike larger than 125 without your code A drivers licence from what I remember so I don't think you can test drive a bike bigger than that (if I remember correctly).

You can. When I financed my bike (1200 Sportster 48), all i needed was Bike Learners.
Got my Drivers 2 years later.
As for the test rides, well, that's going to be dealer dependent.

I paid about R400 to a queue for you service - but there were no outstanding license fees on the bike and this included their fee.
The RWC cost another R400 at DEKRA

whee.

So a couple of times since I got my NC, it's gotten itself stuck in gear. Have to stop, switch off, and switch on to get it working again - not ideal.
Phoned the local Honda dealer to ask about it - guy says he's never heard of anything like that before ever. I've seen a couple of occurrences on the interwebs with fixes ranging from "change the battery" to "loose sensor" to "broken mechanical bits in the gearbox"...
I love having ODD problems with my vehicles :/ Never something easy ...

He did say swing by on Monday and they'll plug it in to see if there's a DTC.

Eish forgot about the RWC... What's the rules around that?

I went to the licence department yesterday, and the only thing she said I was missing is the certified copy of the seller's ID (I had an unverified copy).

Anyone doing the Buffalo Rally in Mossel Bay this weekend?

Dis winter hier; moes liewer by die huis gebly het.
