So Mike Hopkins then I gather.

They did seem extremely expensive on servicing and partly why I was all too happy to make the switch to BMW and that proved to be a LOT cheaper to run and own....and didn't explode.

In this case it seems there is profiteering on the parts and not just their crazy and slow labour charge. Experienced similar when getting quotes for tyres from them as they were always the most expensive by a large margin.

This is brilliant - the thread has come full circle! I was on Wild Dog earlier, searching for BMW service recommendations. I came across that post and thought I'd ask what people do here. Congrats! We have won the internet :D

I've had out of warranty coverage from all four.

Not sure whether a out of warranty claim on a 2011 model with three previous owners is going to make the cut in this case :D

After hearing the noises, I put it on the centre stand and let it run for a bit. Found out I had two stiff links, so it was jumping. Also at that point I found out that scrubbing with a wirebrush is really bad for o-rings, but the gunk wouldn't come off without it. :) You live and learn.

Once again evidence that my idea of never ever cleaning a chain is perfectly sound. :)

Yeah I strictly used chain wax once every 1000km or so, often more.

If someone cleaned it in between it certainly wasn’t me.
 
I just realised the other day....... I've had the bike since February, and not once have had it all the way open... in any gear! Can't remember turning it's ear and feeling the end of the throttle's end :eek:
 
I did that once on a CBR600 in third gear. It was quite an eye-opening experience :D

Then again, I can do it any day of the week on my KLR and it wouldn't really make a difference

So you never clean your chain? Just add additional lube? Do you wipe the excess or just spray and leave?

Are you telling me that my new gold chain won't be gold again? The horror.. :)
 
I've forgotten how light the front can get in hectic cross winds, but nothing that a little more juice to the engine doesn't fix

That's because your redline was 6500rpm, now it's 10k+ rpm.

Those NC's are PAP.

Speaking of Yammies though, I picked a guy up on Rivonia Rd on an MT-09 with an Akra. The XR obviously pulled the MT, but not by a margin I particularly liked :twisted:

Not me. But talking about Akra. How much of a difference does the pipe make to sound and performance?
