Yep. A buddy and myself had covered around 350 kms that day. The bike hadn't given me any indication of forthcoming failure.

Believe it or not, we ultimately traced this back to a wiring issue. Design issue with the looms on these bikes. Long story...

Why don't you share, sounds interesting.

Herewith the strip photos and the mechie's explanation...

Sounds like your former mechie needs a different career... Pity about your bike. :-(

He left literally in the middle of this drama to go work on trains instead....which maybe says it all.

As for your issue I laugh at the explanation that the bike is too mechanical so the rider wouldn't hear any issue because that's exactly been my concern with especially the dry clutch Ducati's.

I do still want that X Diavel one day, one of the biggest surprises I've ever ridden, just not practical enough as a daily.

Trains? If he likes fixing things with a 10-pound hammer, I'm not surprised that he had an issue tinkering on your bike.

To be fair, my Duc' was properly loud and I legitimately did not detect any suspect sounds or vibrations in the bike.

Duc' makes some of the best looking bikes on the market, and there is something special about a big Duc', but I'm glad that mine's gone. It was a blessing in disguise. I'll admire them from afar going forward.

A guy at work rides an Intruder as his daily. It's as big as a small car.

I ride a KTM 1290 Super Duke R as my daily now, and have absolutely no regrets using it as such. :-)

Making me crave that bike again.

Did he have MT-09? Wasn't it an MT-07?
Definitly an MT-09, Fanie actually bought the bike i was going to test ride. before i could get the time.

Also...bikes don't kill people.
Actually wasn’t it the FZ-09?
MT, The FZ is the American version which as far as i'm aware we do not get here. they don't get quickshifter standard iirc.

Just like my Bike ER6-F is called a Ninja 650r in the states.

Isn’t the FZ just the Tracer here?

They usually give an indication unless a sudden change in conditions causes that, like fuel starvation and excessive heat.

I recently had an issue with Harley Davidson - regarding the rather loud piston slap that occurs on start up, until the motor reaches running temp.

After some back and forth with the dealer, and later obtaining a work shop manual from them, I found that Harley Davidson build their motors to loose, like alarmingly loose tolerances.

Super Hectic
Thanx for sharing all that info @Merlin

No worries. I was on the warpath with Ducati, but frankly, when the taxi took me out, that was the last straw. I was exhausted and completely disheartened.

CT_Biker, I didn't pick up anything and my bike goes to the 'shop regularly, as I am pedantic about looking after my mechanical toys. The bike was my sole form of transportation.

Just F.Y.I in case someone is looking - since I know there was some interest a few months ago.

I have a red basically brand new BMW 310GS up for sale in classifieds.

Yeah my ER6 goes till 100km then stop displaying range. haven't tested it yet to seen how much of that 100km i can get.
My amazon mirrors arrived today, took them 7 days from order to Door. different to oem mirrors but it'll do.
