As a general note, bike gear is not an area where you want to buy the cheapest option.

That's the thing, it wasn't the cheapest. It was reasonably priced and a local company so I thought I'd support them. Last bloody time. I won't recommend anyone buy any of their stuff. Contact head office and they aren't willing to help without sending the gear down to CT and being without anything for 2 weeks. At that point I kinda decided, I bought 2 pieces of spirit gear, and 2 pieces are falling apart. What difference would sending it down to CT make - and seeing as it's gloves and a jacket, gear which I won't ride without I need to buy new stuff anyway, so they can get fscked.

I got some nice alpine star gloves for a reasonable price from fire it up in 4ways

Got some Rospa Cruiser II gloves from GPS4Africa - very nice fit

I haven't used any of the Spirit product range, so I can't comment. Pity that you've had such a bad experience with them.

Local can be good though. I wear Xkulcha bike trousers (denim) and short of one issue with the buttock padding, am very happy with them. They've even had a real-life involuntary test, and fared very well.

It’s a local REBRAND and its utter garbage unfortunately.

May as well buy direct from China.

I've been wondering about their CE certification, and whether or not they use the CE meant for bicycles as opposed to motorcycles.

They have no gloves on their website anymore though, so I'm not sure if they got out of the glove game? Is Rospa a local brand? Cause Randburg Motorcycles has some of their gloves as well.

Went to their website and they seem quite good. I'm a bit hesitant to give another local brand a go though. How much were they if you don't mind me asking? How much of a difference would there be between something like this and pair of AlpineStars at +/-R1k.

I won't wear anything but A/S.
I came off hard at 65-70km/h, and I had 0 hand injuries due to my A/S SP-5 gloves.

Spent a cool 13K on gear when i bought my bike almost 3 years ago.
Everything is still in pretty great shape thankfully.

So I have a Spirit helmet which I used for about a year before my bike was stolen and I got a car.

Never had issues with it. I did have one fall, but no helmet impact that I recall.

Also still have my gloves (which I bought about 2 weeks before it got stolen) and they seem decent. Certainly for a noob they’re just fine.

Moto mate in fourways have a big selection. Cannot comment on prices. Have not bought gear in years.

When I got my first bike I bought cheap boots from full throttle. Not even 3 months later they were falling apart. I then bought alpinestars boots and they are still going strong - 5 years later.

Very impressed with my 2 pair but want to buy more (also they need to be one size up)

Spirit just falls apart.

And if it doesn’t one seriously needs to question how it will hold up in a crash.

I'm still using my winter gloves as summer gloves now in year 3... but with the balloons and inner liner cut out with scissors.

So in case anyone wanted to know about the waterproofing... that turned out to be a vinyl glove inside the inner liner. That's why once the vinyl was torn to shreds, the glove would get wet inside and not dry.

It's exactly their gloves and jacket that are falling apart on me. I should take a picture when I get home and show you. The palms on the gloves have holes in them - +/-7months of use, and I can tell you, from the material poking through that it isn't leather.

Only place I've found is MXAlliance. They have a wide variety of stuff from manufacturers that other stores don't seem to stock.

Go down the rabid hole of CE certification on back armor. You suddenly exclude a huge amount of the more common manufacturers.

The default answer is everyone. A lot of the manufacturer (Alphine for instance) offers the CE back protector as an optional upgrade or maybe the flagship jacket in the range has it included (BMW for instance).
