Good day,

So I have a 4mb/s premium data package from mweb....My line is at Telkom.

When I do the adsl checker I get this:

ADSL Availability

Service Available
Maximum speed available in your area 20Mbps (Copper)
Your Current Service speed 10 Mbps

To enjoy a faster surfing experience you can upgrade your connection.

So would like to know if I can upgrade my data package to 10mb/s without checking my line??

When I go into my router I get this( Don't know what this stuff means):

Mode: ADSL_G.dmt
Type: ATM
Status: Up

Downstream Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On On
SNR Margin (dB): 131 120
Attenuation (dB): 230 160
Output Power (dBm): 142 67
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10016 1136
Rate (Kbps): 6144 640
D (interleaver depth): 1 1
Delay (msec): 0.13 0.25

HEC Errors: 0 0
OCD Errors: 0 0
LCD Errors: 0 0

Total ES: 2 0

You will get pretty close to the full 10Mbps, I would bet between 9-9.5Mbps.

Also something looks wrong, you should be on ADSL2+. It looks like you are locked to a 6Mbps sync profile, call Telkom to sort you out.

You're only syncing at 6Meg now. So keep that mind.

What you could do is upgrade to a 6Meg MWEB account for now.

If you want to upgrade to higher you will first have to upgrade your line with Telkom.

You are already on a 10Mbps DSL profile and only getting 6Mbps, so going to a 10Mbps data package won't help at all.

First step is to try and get the full 10Mbps line speed.

Once you have a stable line speed, choose a data package to match it. Currently that would be at 6Mbps.

It looks to me he is locked to a 6Mbps sync profile for some reason, the same thing happened to me back when upgrading to 10Mbps, everything was fine for a week or two and then I was switched to ADSL_G.dmt and lower sync for no good reason. Called Telkom and told them to switch me to ADSL2+ and everything was been golden since then.

If the OP changes his modem DSL sync to ADSL2+ he'll sync at 10Mbps. Shouldn't require any other changes other than perhaps a port reset if it doesn't sync at 10Mbps after the modem change from G.dmt to ADSL2+. Should be a very simple switch...

Good Day Transformer09

Please provide me your MWEB account details via direct messaging.

We will need to verify if it is possible for you to move to 10Mbps.

If you line is with us, we can make the application to Telkom on your behalf.

If the line is with Telkom, you would need to make contact with them.

Please note that this is also impacted on by port availability, which is not reflected on your ADSL checker.

That's why I said he should be on ADSL2+, which in theory should get him close to the full 10Mbps.

Can I do this myself??? I have a D-Link router or should I phone telkom?

Yes, you login and change the DSL sync settings from g.dmt to ADSL2+. You do that on the modem-router...

Can't seem to find that setting:(

If you tell me which D-Link I can tell you how. It can also be named modulation type.

Check the video, might point you in the right direction:

Yeah mine looks exactly the same as the one in the video....

ADSL2+ is enabled

My settings is the same as in the video!

Now go back into the setting, disable G.dmt, save and restart your modem, come back and post your line stats again after that.

My internet does not work when I do that...

I've contacted Telkom...A technician will get back to me within 1-2hours

Going to ask them to do a port restart? Is that correct?
