NeoConnect Lite prices emerge

Very disappointing so far.

I've had 384 for a few years. Desperately want a faster connection but would be satisfied if neotel offered the same speed with a decent amount of bandwidth.

In South African terms:

156 uncapped should not cost more than R250. (R50 internationally)

384 uncapped for R500 (R100 internationally)

What worries me is if it will stay uncapped or if they (in Sentech style) will change their tune after a few months and start imposing a cap.

I guess it means I'll just have to wait and hope they bring out a package which will suit my needs.

So far it will pay me to stay with the Devil known as Telkom.

How about I will give them a middle finger? How about I will spread a nasty word or two about the company? How about if I meet the CEO in the street I will kick him in the balls? How about something for goodness sakes :D

I'm not saying Neotel is a bad company.....yet. I'm just saying if we are being so lax about it then we deserve to be ripped off :/ I still don't buy the whole financially viable thing though. I'm not asking it to be dirt cheap either...just reasonable. At least show them the demand.

I'm certainly not saying we should just sit back and go "Oh well, TIA."
Just that people have been sitting for six years (give or take) bitching and moaning about Telkom, saying things like "I hate Telkom, I'll never use them again!" and "We should shut Telkom down! They're raping the country!" but now that we've actually got some competition and they've ventured out into the waters with some tenuous potential offers about all I've heard is "Oh, well obviously we were expecting to be as good as Europe. I'm staying with Telkom."

Which basically is rolling over and saying "Agh don't stress Telkom. You're raping us but at least we know you so we'll continue to take it like the willing public we are. And that's where Telkom execs grin and realise that if they can undercut NeoTel by even 1c/1mb people will never move because of the huge sense of comfort they get by being reamed by the beast.

There's no mention of shaping or contention ratio anywhere (unless I've missed it), which renders a real comparison impossible.

I have Uninet 128 kbps uncapped for R400 pm, but some ports/services are ridiculously shaped.

Assuming that this includes line/equipment rental, etc, I think these are good prices. What I would like to have seen is free minutes/calls to Telkom as well. At this stage, I'm not sure if the free minutes/sms's will be used very frequently.

Other than that, I would change to Neotel.

Ja OK, eish....I forstands :)

I just hope they read these forums. Their one bargaining chip might be if they at least have a rep on MYADSL. Some easy contact and support would be a sight for sore eyes.

vv What he said though :p vv

ATM, these potential offers do not come close to what Telkom is currently offering most people.

158 Kbps can't be advertised as broadband, ICASA regulates broadband at 256Kbps and no less so I think Neotel is missing the point with this offering.

They can only offer an entry level broadband connection at 256Kbps and in that case they will be competing with Telkom's 384 which is not good at all.

To be honest I am actually looking forward to their prime offering, since I can see myself going for that, I will have to dust off the old PC's in the garage and setup a USB connection with network sharing, I guess Eskom will call me and tell me about my 10% electricity increase due to the extra PC I am running 24/7.

Looks like we just can't win in this country!

Any-hoo people, why complain Neotel just started... they are not gona give us 10MB/s connection with 100GB's of bandwith. They are trying to target people that up untill now have not been able to get internet due to Telcrap ripping them off!

Better speed and packed will come in time, aswell it is also "wireless" it will always give bad ping for games that require a constant stream of data to be sent, cept for iBurst :p

To, me 18Kb/s average download speed and uncapped for that ammount is way better than my horribly shaped 64k connection which is unble to use Steam or play almost any games leaving me to download all day long... atleast now I can have some bandwith to play some games and download! :D

EDIT:
kbps & Kbps
Telkom 384k = 48Kbs download speed
Neotel 158kbps = 18Kbs download speed "peak" which means it's not constant.

Dear Mr Neotel.

It is May now so stop with the April's fool joke. Please read this forum and see that the customers want. Can you please tell us what will be paying for a voice only packedge.

Thanks

Okay, but then it must be cheaper! I don't need a high end package, a slowish connection with 1 Gb is about all I need. I can get that from Cybersmart at R169. Neotel's lowest offering (so far, anyway) is R299.

You can do even cheaper than that with Nashua Mobile's R139 per month offer - and that apparently includes a free Billion wireless router.

The killer here is that it is in the form of a bundle. I am unwilling to pay for voice calls (Free is never free.) as I already pay MTN for those and I am unwilling to pay for both service providers.

I believe they will find that this is an issue for a large percentage of potential subscribers as cellphone penetration is more extensive than Telkom penetration at this point in time.

Well, We can safely say, Its not what we expected but its better than what we had

Uncapped is, as stated further back in the thread, a step in the right direction. But it's too slow, and does not meet my needs. The unlimited offer seems to be competing for the diginet/isdn clients, not the broadband subscribers.
Still waiting .....

Ive been using helkom dsl for a couple of years now, i've probably recieved about 10 phone calls on the land line in that entire time. 98% of all land line calls have been to helkom support.

With the advance in technology (voip) with devices which can handle skype or sip phones, land line calls are becoming redundant, even my 70 year old gran uses the internet and her cellphone and skype, no land line calls.

So my few cents...

-Nuke 24 month contract, purchase the device you flavour.
-0 on net sms's (make billing per sms if you really have to send an sms this way)
-0 on net phone call minutes (make billing per sec if you really have to phone this way)
-158kbps->max speed in 256k steps uncapped
-And eventually, ethernet connection to device.

Contract - Early Cancelation: Only Liable for the Device Cost

YOU WOULD HAVE HAD TO BUY THE FECKING THING CASH OTHERWISE

Neotel 160Kbps Contention Ratio - Each one of their "Exchanges" (Towers) is on a 10Gbit Fibre line
Telkom 384 Contention Ratio - 50/1 ????????????????

[EDIT] The NeoConnect PRIME will be 2.4Mbps Unlimited... we are talking about the LITE version

Neotel R299 for 2GB
Telkom R397 for 2GB (R105 Line Rental + R152 ADSL Line + R140 2GB Cap + Huge Call out and Installation Fees, SHYTE SERVICE!)

Anyone who has phoned Neotel will know that u get looked after! I was even told to enjoy my day! all u get from Telkom is a "EISH?!?!"

So Basically, Stop whining like little bitches, and wait for Seacom! its Not neotel that stuffed up the Market, Its our Guavanment. They even tried to stop Seacom.

Right now. This is just what we need.
so shut up, either move across to Neotel, or stay with Helkom.

my 2c
