NeoConnect pricing details

Lets look at what I am currently paying to have a 48 kbps (384) line from Telkom:

Line rental: R 109
ADSL rental: R 199
Unshapped ISP @ R78.66 Incl. VAT per 500 Mb (I use average 3.5 GB): R550.62
Telkom Wireless router cost over 24 Months: R 2000 / 24: R83.33

So currently I am paying +/- on average per month: R 941.95 per month!

With Neotel I can basically have the same amount of data and only pay R 499 per month.

I do not know what is wrong with some of the negative people here but I am surely looking at this as a solution, come on Neotel Mayville isn't to far from Pretoria central!

Sure you do not get the router included, but there are ways around that too.

I mean if I enjoyed or even condoned piracy I would go for the Prime unlimited since I am spending that much already for 3.5 GB of unshaped data.

Thank you Neotel, if this is your start I am really looking forward to your future improvements and offerings!
Enjoy it man. You are in the minority of people for whom this is an exciting offer.

its USB based. you can plug it into your usb and then its tricky to share internet with the other pc's. If you reset your pc, all the other pc's loose connectivity...

Ethernet port - would be much nicer - plug it into your router and all the pc's can share without fuss.

someone somewhere did mention you get a usb to ethernet adapter - can someone tell us more about it and will it do what i want it to do???

You can get USB to ethernet adapterd, but they are going in the wrong direction. The adapters connect to a USB Host, and allow the host to connect to an ethernet network. The phone is ALSO expecting to connect to a USB host. In other words, it won't do what you need.

What you need is something that has a USB host port, as well as an ethernet port, that ALSO has whatever drivers are necessary to control the phone. An example of this might be any OpenWRT-supported router that also supports USB-attached storage, or USB-printers, etc.

Or perhaps a Linux-based NAS, like the DLink DNS323, which also has a USB host port.

Of course, the deciding factor is the availability of drivers for the phone. Can anyone who has signed up for one of these packages tell me how the phone appears to the host PC?

sent them an email - lets see what they say :
01. Is it available in my area?
02. Does this include P2P
03. Is there an Ethernet option available as mainly require it to serve my pc’s on the home network.

NT!...For some people Telkom doesn't give a good deal , nevermind actual performance for what they are paying. If Neotel can give the customer "better" value for money , i'd support them ANY day. All in good time i'd say! ...oh and whats up with the 1000 posts in < 2weeks..you should be studying :P

too much trouble - i'd rather then just stick it on my file server which is a standalone pc in a corner, set it up to share the net from there - problem solved.

Not a map, but a list of suburbs which've got coverage.

See Pta Central and Sunnyside's listed, but nothing else in Pta. :(

What about the names in the "map" list reflecting as "The Woodlands" and "Woodland" - does that refer to the Pretoria East suburb for the rich, or are there also suburbs in Joburg by these names?

The Prime Unlimited offering is a huge leap in the right direction. Uncapped for R999 seems like a great deal. Doing some quick math it's more than 200GB of data (using 700kbps as speed). That's less than R5/GB. I doubt there's any service that can beat that price.

SEACOM hasn't landed yet, so we can't expect miracles. Neotel is offering some of the best deals they can currently. I'm sure things can only get better from here.

Personally I'd jump at the chance to use Neotel's service, despite the shortcomings and the contract. Unfortunately they'll only reach my region in another 5-10 years if I'm lucky.

I believe Woodland is a suburb in Joburg... its basically in Woodmead. The Woodlands on the other hand is more an office park in Woodland/Woodmead. Would appear they list not only suburbs in the coverage "map". For instance, they listed both Woodmead and Woodmead Value Mart.

NeoConnect Prime Unlimited – 2.4Mbps

* 2000 Neotel-to-Neotel voice minutes
* 120 free local and regional off-net Telkom minutes
* 100 Neotel-to-Neotel SMSes
* 100 National SMSes
* NeoMail Expert
* Unlimited Internet usage
* Cost: R999 per month

there MUST be a catch somewhere. like that bull 'fair usage clause' or something!

I would love to see Telkom's upcoming "special offers" on ADSL :-)

LOL man.

Telkom's deal that I am on currently is far superior to this Neotel offering..

As for the 1000 posts...:o

I went into Telkom today and cancelled my adsl and telephone line!! Feels GREAT , although they did tell me that I will still receive and invoice next month because the telephone line rental is from the middle of the mont to the middle of the next month, I suppose just one more little fu from telkom.

going to use my 3g till NT is available in Lynnwood pta, and then take the 2.4 unlimited

come on neotel you've already got one ex-telkom subscriber, do away with voice and sms, we don't need it

Thanks NoName.

The substantial coverage around Woodmead comes as no surprise, really: Neotel HAS to keep its head office up & running!

What part of UNshaped don't you guys seem to understand?

I don't work for Neotel. It's it infuriates that you guys just complain about everything. Look at the positives for heavens sake.

The more people support them, the more pressure is put onto telkom. You can't expect the world yet do nothing to help.

A good question to ask would have been whether you get a static ip or not.

Telkom and everybody else is over-charging us.
Neotel seems to have decided to offer packages that are just a bit better than the competition.
But that doesn't mean those packages bring us anywhere closer to a "good" internet experience, let alone an "internationally comparable" one.

This is their choice. My choice is to advise my family and friends to wait for a better deal.

If they didn't have a 24 month contract with dodgy hardware (IMHO) then they look better...but not by much

maybe I just hoped for too much.
