New iBurst Wireless pricing revealed

Looks like iburst actaully just became more expensive .
YOUR NUMBER SHUFFLE FAILS TO ACHIEVE ANYTHING.
All you did was make out of bundle cheaper at the cost of taking away the 64k throttled.
The whole reason iburst was appealing was the never get hard capped option.
Now you want to make that a payable feature , when that has always been part of iburst?

So in short this fails to impress me.
This helps me in no way at all. On the contrary i would be paying more than i am now for exactly the same product.

the new price of 592 is now for 8gigs if u look again... the tables r done a bit dodgy i must say, the old gigs and new gigs r different if you have a look ;)

That's the problem Jannie the old package isn't supposed to work out better. I thought you guys were going to come out with 20 gig packages. I get about 30gigs montly out of my 5 gig account anyway. Wouldn't it have been better to have after hour and weekend uncapped packages as well rather than just the 64Kbps and 128Kbps email checking packages.

Jannie i understand what you are saying but the truth is that i can do more than 3GB on the 64k if i wanted to , it would just take a bit longer.
This is just encouraging me to race through my cap asap and then just let the pc download 24/7 from the 3rd of the month right through till the end of the month at throttled .
Why is it encouraging me to do that you may ask ... well because I would be getting value for money than the new packages and i dont have to worry about micro managing my internet usage and that ill get disconnected completely.

so quick math (correct me if im wrong )

27 days
24 hours in a day
60 minutes in an hour
60 seconds in a minute
@ 6kb

27 x 24 x 60 x 60 x 6 = 13996800 kb
13996800 / 1024 = 13668.75 MB
13668.75 /1024 = 13.348 Gb theoretically possible on 64k downloading 24/7 over 27 days .

Stay on old package (theorectically)
13.348 GB + 5GB
New package
3 GB + 5GB

Which one looks more worth it ?

(Telkom R349 for 2GB)
(Vodacom R389 for 2GB)
(MTN R389 for 2GB)

Please, show me how you can get 2GB for less than R200?
(R29 per GBx2 + telkom fees R250 = more than R300)

If the cheapest is still a rip off, at least they are the cheapest.

Depends on your needs, those of us NOT using the 64K to the fullest and are on other wireless providers (Telkom 3G) - this is great news, I can now get 8GB (instead of 4GB) for the same price I'm paying right now!

Those who use the 64K package, go freeflo (R0) + 128K (R250) - for R50 extra, you've doubled your download amount, whats the issue :confused:
 
I don't see what you guys are all complaining about... This is a great deal. The pricing is a bit complicated, but once you understand how it works, you will see that it is cheaper than ADSL, and 3G/HSDPA.

ADSL will only be cheaper for higher-end packages that are 15-20GB+. And you're getting a download speed of 1mbps. Let's do a comparison between entry-level (1GB) packages with iBurst, ADSL and 3G, taking total cost of ownership into account, excluding modem costs:

ADSL 384kbps
- Line rental - R131 (residential)
- 384kbps access fee - R152
- 1GB data usage from Afrihost @ R29
- TOTAL: R312 per month, total cost of ownership, excluding modem
- Top up at R29 per GB

Vodacom 3G, HSDPA 7.2mbps
- 1 GB package at R289, total cost of ownership, excluding modem.
- Top up at R289 per GB (i.e. purchase new data bundle)

iBurst 1mbps
- Subscription - R50
- 1 GB data @ R99
- TOTAL: R149 per month, total cost of ownership, excluding modem
- Topup at R99 per GB

Entry level iBurst is less than half the price of entry-level ADSL using (almost) the cheapest ISP, and is almost half the price of entry level 3G from Vodacom. I believe MTN's 3G prices are the same. These prices exclude device/modem costs, and are based on month-to-month subscriptions, not 24 month contracts.

If you're an entry-level user, than iBurst is by far the cheapest. So what's all the bitching about, then?

So, I get 1gig more, pay R1 less for it and loose the uncapped 64bit service...?

Also, when you subcribe to the 128k uncapped service @ R249, do you get an exstra username and password or will it only come into effect once your 2Gigs is finished?
 
Problem with iburst when say they "soon" is that it means maybe 6 months waiting again.

Is the website updated as yet? I only do Prepaid as way 2 many BAD experience with contract, debit orders etc. So what is the prepaid costs like?

1Dec it'll hopefully be updated

iBurst, much to my surprise, is actually trying to clean up it's act and sort out these things that pain the users. They are trying at least. But go in there knowing what you want and how to communicate it well and you should be fine.
 
at least sense has prevailed with the top up prices. that was one of the major reasons initially that caused me to leave iburst.

I think jannie also has to be congratulated by being proactive in trying to make iburst a viable entity in the broadband burst (with respect specifically to the iburst technology). I always got the sense that the business model was floundering under the old leadership of thami and knott-craig.

It can’t be easy to get into the business, have to analyse its user patterns and what changing packages means for revenues versus costs. I think this is an acknowledgement of seeing what the broadband landscape is doing and at least making some quick changes to ensure that iburst is not left in the wilderness.

For that alone he should be commended.

Going to go through and decipher this thread.
We have spent R29000 on iburst these past four years. We are still on the old 3.5GB @ R599, and felt poorly about Iburst as a service provider when we realised newer customers where getting a better deal. We were planning on moving away instead of migrating packages.
Still to go through the threads, or read the pricing page. Quick analysis ( because our 3.5 @ R599 structure is not shown). We will be getting a _much_ better deal?
