News server related queries

cool will try it, have actually never used anything except newsleechers search engine
 
SAIX news server down @ 2PM on my side. Sometimes I wonder why I bother. The two search engines I use is: Newshost.za.net and Newzleech.com. On newsleech, If it's new stuff you trying to download, click "posts" when searching.

It's not down for me... but extremely slow... lots of time outs :(

come on ppl ... you're cutting into my downloading here!!! :mad:

Lol, about half of full speed for me, no timeouts ;) :D :p
 
What kind of hardware do you think they running on those servers? SAIX must be pretty good if they mirroring Giganews. I think ISs' has 2x 80Gig hard drives, in raid !

If I can download 2 gigs per day, then that is fine as long it is items that are cached and will come down at the fastest speed a 2 meg link allows. I don't want to go and look at specific stuff and download it. I want it to be an automatic process. If somebody drops an item in cache, then I just want to mirror it as fast as possible.

Do you want to do this for yourself, or to help others by providing another server for all of us to use.
 
Hey guys

I'm having a weird problem with the SAIX news server.

If I use my Telkomsa account with 6gigs of local left (before they start charging) then I can't connect to news.saix.net

When I login with my WA prepaid account it works really good.
(Obv using the same nzb)

Any ideas?
 
howsit... does anyone know why i cant sign up to newshost? its been saying that signups are closed for about a month now...
 
PM dabouncer or bullfrog and request to sign-up. New sign-ups have been closed due to a few complications that arose not long ago.
 
Tuesday 25th March and Wednesday 26th March... SAIX news server was down the entire night. Still seems to be being shaped during the day.

The server is probably overloaded due to month end traffic.

Yes, it happens every now and then. It is usually sorted out in a couple of hours. Don't worry, it will be fine.
 
Is it just me, or is newshost still unavailable ? :confused:

Been trying to access it since early this morning and the entire day (and still) I can't access the site..

Still not working. I'll upload 3 NZB's to my UUNET folder for those of you who wants.
 
Ok, I have decided to go to the dark side, and am going the linux route, busy downloading fedora 9.

Now my question is, what is a good news reader/downloader for linux, keeping in mind that I am new to linux, and would prefer something with a gui
