News server related queries

With IS it does - each connection is throttled to a certain max speed.

With SAIX it probably makes little difference.

PS: talking about uncached.
 
ok so what i hav done, using all the info here on the forum, i have tried everything, i log onto a domain and i find when i logon to the domain and try use grab it, it just keeps pausing but if i dont logon to the domain but just use the companies internet connection then it works 100% no pausing every 2 seconds? what could be causing it to pause every 2 seconds when i logon to the domain and use grab it that way??? thanks for all the help so far!!
 
dont worry all i sorted out my issue, it was because my cache setting in grab it was on the server not local, local now and its works 100%
 
hey all any1 know how to get grabit to run from the system tray?? ie not a minimzied window???
 
2 settings i always use when first loading grabit

1. setting up system tray
edit preferences minimize to tray
2. setting up the auto retry
edit preferences advanced tick automatically retry items

SAIX NS working?

I have just switched over to SAIX from Internet Solutions and have changed the server in Grabit to news.saix.net but I am having no joy getting anything to download.

Have I made a mistake or is the reliable SAIX NS I got promised actually down at the moment?
 
Aha, so it might not be me!

Anyone trying news.isdsl.net at the moment and not getting any luck?

Damn maybe the choice to move was not a good one! :)

The server is usually overloaded from around the 20th of the month as more and more month end traffic try to grab unused Gigs from the Server. Your best bet is to just leave it running overnight and hope you can get a break in.

BTW, there is a thread at the top of this forum for all questions related to the news server ;)

That is useless then! At least the IS one you can get downloads all the time even if they are slow! Seems a few people on here may have been lying!

And yes I know there is a sticky but I tend to find existing threads that are very long are ignored by most people when they appear in the new posts list.

Lying? That's a bit harsh. I'm trying both ATM and am not being wowed by either.

I stand by my assertion that SAIX servers are in general superior.

BTW - the one big thread is there for a reason - please use it - the people most involved with the NS do so your qns are more likely to be responded to. ;)

Ha ha yeah it was probably a little harsh but I do tend to find people over exaggerate the merits of a system they are using. :)

I have been on IS for about a year now and constantly get told how much quicker and more reliable SAIX is, but now here I am and it is down. So not a good start! By the way it was not you in particular I was referring to.

Bwana are you able to connect to the SAIX NS now?

Mine started working again, 1st 2 weeks of the month are ok.

Hmm, damn this is the first I am hearing of this 1st two weeks only.




By the way if we are going to merge all threads that relate to the same topic can we also please do so with everything else on these forums that relate to the same topic! Perhaps all the crime threads can be put into one thread etc! I had a particular query which was time dependant and wished for it to get answered by whoever was able to and not necessarily only the NS specialists, hence a new thread with a new title that those who could answer would be able to. People who are familiar with NSs may not have bothered to go back into an NS FAQ thread!
