No Data connection but full signal

Mine has generally been fine the last two weeks. I was in Unhlanga for a week with great throughput and back in Pta I was able to stream podcasts every morning and evening without issues.
 
Usually I get get better speeds on the 900MHz cell than on the 2100MHz cell in my area:
e.g. 5.95Mbps vs 1.45Mbps

Today I was trying to download a Steam update, but nothing was coming through.
I ran a speedtest and found I was getting 0.03Mbps down and 0.05Mbps up!
I forced the connection to 2100MHz and was able to get 3.67Mbps.

Edit: My phone is normally in '3G Only' mode. I tried three times in a row to make a phone call and got a 'network busy' error each time.
I switched my phone to '2G Only' mode and am still unable to make a call.

Had the same problem on Vodacom ... , finally resorted to switching my iPhone 4S off and back on. Could make a call, and minutes later was right back where I started ...

Was tempted to throw the phone against the nearest wall - not phones fault yeah, but the frustration of not being able to make a much needed call ... EISH!!
 
Hopefully porting my last voice numbers back to MTN this week. At work they are porting around 500 other numbers out of Cell C as well to other networks. Good riddance.
 
Anyone getting no 3G throughput despite full signal strength today? Not a good first day on Cell C.

I assume you have a 21Mbit/s device?
I experience the same issue only with 21Mbit/s sticks. Full Signal.
In some areas the 21Mbit/s sticks don't seem to work. In all areas the 7.2Mbit/s CellC ZTE MF190 stick works fine. Don't know why..

Not being familiar with your phone or the cells you are connecting to, I can only hazard a guess that disabling HSPA+ might move you off a congested 900MHz cell onto an uncongested 2100MHz cell.

IT platform sounds more like a backend software issue. But I agree, Cell-C could have been more open about the issue.

IT platform sounds more like a backend software issue. But I agree, Cell-C could have been more open about the issue.

It's not a congestion issue. It's DEAD. DEAD DEAD DEAD. 0 bytes/sec. NO traffic AT ALL.
 
Will CellC ever fix the bloody issues, i mean really????, we pay a monthly subscription for a service, but were is the service?, if it was not for WiFi in my building i probably would never get any data thorough this thing, so for heavens sake CellC, fix your network in the Midrand/samrand area,
Fix it the whole SA for that matter, you remind of of an old wireless company not to long ago, selling a product they cannot deliver, if you cannot deliver, stop advertising and selling.
i have seriously had it up to here, i was with vodacom for over 15 years, and have never had a days issue with them, i will rather pay slightly more for something i can actually use.

Switching to 2100 did not work for me - I was one of the people that tried it - and then 2100 coverage is so patchy that I'm out of coverage for half my trip home.

I understand networking better than you understand freeways, apparently. It's pretty rare to get zero throughput on a congested network line. You'll get at least a few bps, sporadically.
I can't even get a ping through.

No.
But it's not just pings. NOTHING goes through at all. It's completely, completely dead. 0bps up and down rates.

Strange. Sounds like you have a different problem to most of the other people in this thread then.

What area are you in?

Have you reported the problem to Cell-C's helpdesk?

I'm experiencing this exact problem on a 2GB monthly account I just got via MWEB for my Nexus 7. Cell C connectivity is intermittent and patchy. Full signal strength but no connectivity at all.

Cell C rep here asked for some details from me, but has not replied again after I provided them. Local MWEB store said I must bring the device in to them today, but when I got there I discovered the techie was off sick today. I need to log a fault with MWEB blah blah next week.

So basically getting nowhere with either company at the start of a 1 year contract :(
