No Data connection but full signal

Cell C works great for me in Jhb

Then you have a different issue than the one in the subject, because this one started about Feb/March 2013.
The issue we have is "congestion" at peak times, about 18:00-22:00.

Thank you for your attempt to diagnose my issue. Sadly you are wrong. This did NOT start in 2013, it just became a lot worse so that more people noticed it. Because I game over my connection I watch my latencies and speeds like a hawk. I had not a single issue until March 2011. Then latencies started going bad, no or little throughput even at full signal.

It was obviously congestion and I started logging one call after another listening to people lie to me on every call. I tested on my friend's phones and saw they had the exact same issue as I did, right when I did. However because they just use the connection casually they did not really notice it that much.

Then it got worse and worse to the point where they all started seeing it as well. CellC Data in the East Rand is a sham, Both Boksburg and Kempton where I have lived I do not even bother to use the internet in the afternoon. The funny thing is the excuse always changes. At first they said nothing was wrong, later they said there is a massive base station issue in the east rand, then after that the blamed BIS users, the last time I spoke to them (last week) they said they are now throttling BIS and my speed should be much better, of course it was not, it was much worse, which was why I called them.

I gave all the info they asked, then I get a voice message saying they mailed me a questionnaire with additional info they need. I look through my mailboxes, can not find them. Call them again, wait an hour on the phone, ask what mail the sent it to, they can not tell me. So I ask if I can answer the questions over the phone. They tell me if I do that they have to open a new docket that will take another week to resolve.

What a bunch of useless idiots. My contract expires in 2 months. So long suckers.

I've had the exact same problem with cell-c since I moved to Bloemfontein about 5 years ago and the tower isn't even a km from my house.

hsdpa/3g went dead about an hour ago. Switched over to Edge to at least have a connection. This sucks balls.

I had this for the 1st time this weekend in Canal Walk.

Full H+ signal but not even Whatsapp messages were going through...

Switched to Edge only and I was then able to make a Viber call- strange.

2G worked while 3G didn't at all.

Makes me wonder how often my phone is 'dead' without me knowing about it- at a casual glance everything seems fine. Only when you try to send a message or something do you notice that it's actually not working :(

Doesn't seem like they've made much progress in getting this fixed yet.

Yeah. First time it's happened to me today. Well... I think it's the first time it's happened and I also only noticed it because my WhatsApp messages weren't going through.

And just yesterday I was thinking how porting to Cell C was a good idea as the phone calls I've had have been crystal clear and browsing the web has been such a pleasure.

:(

Someone please explain to me.I have 2 CellC sim cards as I post,same location,one on my HTC Sensation and one on my Huawei E122 connected to a TP-Link MR3220 router and speed tests(phone and laptop-wi-fi) are hitting:

0.46Mbps = Phone
1.71Mbps = Laptop(wi-fi)

Consistently(same server CellC JHB).:confused:

Could it be a case of "faulty" sims and perhaps requiring a sim swap on my phone?

Must say an improvement on the wi-fi side as it was doing 0.45Mbps the last 3+ weeks.

What happens if you swap the SIMs between the router and your phone?

See:

Thanx ginggs,just did a quick one about 10-15 min ago and interestingly the sim on the HTC just did this when connected to huawei E122+TP-Link router(and I must point out doing the test on the speedtest app this past month+weeks it never hit above 1Mbps..I swear)

And interestingly the one that was on the E122+Router was hitting between 1.03-1.52Mbps(three attempts) on the HTC.

Will do a thorough one tomorrow taking into account many variables i.e. peak/off-peak,different locations etc,but interesting nonetheless.

Great speeds on Cell C

Pinetown few mins ago. Some days there's no data with full signal though.

Just now, Tygervalley Cape Town.

As the problem seems 3G related, I'm sticking to Edge (saves battery too) unless I know I need to do some heavy lifting.

Good luck with the fix CellC!
