No Data connection but full signal

My Cell C still does not work during the day, I can really only use it after 22:00.

That is quite useless, but I am trying to use up the bandwidth by downloading iTunes movies at night.

I have had to revert back to Telkom ADSL.

At least my previous max of 0.8mbps (on a 4mbps line) has improved to 8mbps, I guess they must have upgraded the exchange in my absence.

But the 10mbps does not show up on the exchange query (still shows 4mbps), so the upgrade must have been recent.

Had the same problems with my cell c connection, full signal and no data.

So i Installed a fsck big gsm antenna on my roof, and connected it to my huawei e367, which is plugged into 3g router.

Problem solved. Let some other poor SOB spend hours on the phone complaining to cell c

If you had full signal, how does installing an antenna on your roof solve the problem?
Are you aiming at a different, less congested, base station?

Its an omni, so not really aiming it at all. I think its one of the following:

1. Full signal (all bars) doesn't necessarily mean 100%, as 5bars could be 70%+ . by putting antenna on the roof, am getting 95% instead of 80%.
2. Putting the antenna has helped increase my tx strength substantially, as before it was on full signal and 0 data. Once I get a better tx, then the requests are successfully being sent, where as before they were not able to reach their destination.
3. Contention. I am able to get my request in quicker (ping times have reduced dramatically), and so get serviced quicker than those without antenna
4. No obstructions. The antenna is outside, and has nearly 300° of space around it, with no nearby buildings obstructing
5. Cell C might have fixed the problem in this area. I doubt it, because when I brought the router back down, the internet went down again, with full signal

Whatever reason the case, am getting minimum of 1mbps in the day, and up to 12mBps at night. The interesting thing is my uplink, it drops to 100kbps during the day, but goes up to 4mbps at night

What does "full signal" or 100% or 5 bars mean anyway.

Sorry for blowing my own trumpet, but rather measure your signal strength in dBm with MDMA.

How can you increase your signal strength from "full signal"?

Blow your trumpet all you like, 90% of the people on this forum know exactly what I mean by full strength and a number of bars. That is what they are talking about when they say full strength. That is what you see on your connection manager and cellphone. My router say 100% signal strength no matter where the modem is

E.g. We have more than 300 gprs based digital advertisement boards installed in SA and Angola, the screens measure the csq levels before installations. Csq of 31 to 21 show on the screen as signal strength of 100. From 21 downwards, its more or less linear, and the screen won't allow installation if signal is below 60%.

Cellphones and modems typically measure in the same way, so above 70% might still show as 'full signal' , but you know this already

It works now, and didn't last week. there is hardly any situation where there is an actual 'full signal', but our devices tell us so

So you are saying you didn't really have a full signal before?

All my devices showed full signal, but probably not, same as most of the people on this thread
And when you said you had no throughput, did you mean 100% packet loss or was it just very slow?

100% packet loss from about 6am to 10pm. No mybb forums from home until after 10-11pm everyday:mad:. That's why I started posting after midnight

Sounds like congestion to me, but that is only my guess.

Have you tried comparing Cell-IDs?

I tried different cell ids different frequencies. Had 1 sim for my modem, 1 for my tablet and 1 for my phone. All on 'full signal' , no data.

Probably congestion as you say, but not my problem in the meantime any more.

Current speed test result , ping 47ms, 7.5mbps down, 2.5mbps up

ginggs, do you believe that everyone here is just suffering slight issues and that there is no issues with Cell C's network at all?

S2 doesn't do hspa does it?

Anyway here are some examples:

It's difficult to say because posters don't bother to update their location or mention which device they use, which is why it is better to post in the network issues thread and provide the info requested.

Given that there are still good results being posted in the speed test thread I would say their network is OK, but there are localized problems; poor coverage, congested cells, etc.

From Sinbad's reports it sounds like there may be an incompatibility in the HSPA+ implementation in whatever device he is using.

Well, given that Cell C sold me the device (a Galaxy S4) I would expect it to work properly on their network... no?

Have done repeatedly. No word apart from "log it with our tech support line" which is a waste of time. They're the ones that told me to roam on Vodacom
