Nokia N82 or Samsung Omnia

have u tried updatinng your phone lately, maybe they've made the FP2 available? Not that I think its a major deal, it would just be cool, but it seems nokia are playing dirty, oh well, its not the end of the world

hi lance, have u managed to get Garmin XT thing working on your n82?
whats your suggestion for GPS software.
i'm getting the 6220, but it has no voice guided nav software installed.

I cannot call the Omnia dependable. It wasn't fun waking up this morning not knowing if i had overslept for work, until I found a pin to reset my dead Omnia, pricking myself in the process, then finally seeing the time once it had booted up.

Dude, I think you gotta flash your ROM to the latest version - it sorts out tons of the issues. I have never had any alarm, hard reset, screen going blank and all those very annoying issues you're having, with mine.
Check out MoDoCo forums for some decent custom ROMs or just go to http://www.samsungmobile.com/promotion/omnia/index.jsp and get the latest Singapore rom!

ok guys, crunch time.

do i cancel the Omnia deal? Or should i ignore all the faults that have been reported on the forum and try it out for myself?

MTN are getting the Bold next week, and I still feel its my safest bet, no one has anything bad to say about it.

My other choice is the Nokia 6220.

Are you sure ???

Well I have for one being on a waiting list for the Bold since last month ( they were orriginaly to launch Oct) and I don't think anyone knows for sure when it is comming their standard reply is always ' next week' :D
Feel like signing with Vodacom for the Bold I recon one of the better phones out there right now.

As stated most of the functions mentioned in FP2 I have on my N82, so it appears that although they do not call it FP2 the firmware upgrades include all the new features anyway.

I have Garmin on mine as well as the out the box Nokia Maps... I have voice navigation for both (the Nokia maps came with 2 years and the Garmin with the assistance of the internet...). I have to admit to using the Garmin more as I am more familiar with the software. I have used the Nokia Maps a few times just for comparative purposes, and it gets me where i need to go! Now surely this is all you want GPS software to do! ;)

What are the most important things to u in a phone? Forgive me if u've stated this already, but i sort of shut off when u guys were discussing Garmin and GPS, features I'm not very familiar with :)

K, will try it. But why the Singapore one? Are there any undesirable results from doing so?

You shouldn't have to resort to inconvenient flashing and hacks, a phone should be solid right out the box. This is why testing forms part of the design process.

My previous N80 was plagued by all sorts of issues. A few firmware upgrades sorted out some of them, but not all. Basically it should not be this way especially when a device costs as much as a laptop.

well, i really want 16GB storage, decent GPS and at least something that can make a decent phonecall. And the Omnia has very good features for all 3 :)

and if the rest of the phone is crap, at least it should b able to make a call :)

one of the biggest things for me is that I hate paying a lot of money for electronics, and thats the nicest thing, iTalk doing the deal for me at a great price
