The long and is short is very easy to understand. If you are not going to buy an e-Tag, simply avoid all highways and do not drive underneath a gantry. If you do, you will be charged the fees and whether you pay it now or later, you will pay it. It will simply depend on whether you pay the initial fee or the initial fee along with penalties.

Sanral has asked government to bring into the act the matter of civil fees and convictions, which are aimed at people who make use of toll roads and do not pay the fee. This civil fee is likely to be implemented at the end of the year when you attempt to renew your car license. You will need to pay the toll fee, the late payment penalty as well as Sanral's civil fee.

If you still refuse, you are likely to be charged criminally and you may end up in court paying all above fees, the criminal fine and probably sit in jail for 6 months as well, as the act make provision for both a fine and imprisonment.

Coupled with this, you are also opening yourself to the Asset Forfeiture Unit of the NPA, who will not doubt to seize your assets in order to ensure that all fines are paid - if you are charged criminally. They will probably make up some BS story about you profiting from making use of toll roads and not paying the fees.

So, at the end of the day simply avoid the highways and take the longer back roads, start leaving for work earlier and come home later. That is the only option we will have if we do not buy e-Tags and pay the discounted fees.

So how is the pay at Sanral?

So how is the pay at Sanral?

I don't know, I don't care either.

I will never get an e-tag, but I will also make sure that I never pay them a cent!

However, this is the reality people will face once the eTolls starts off.

Also, just one last thing to mention. If the country could stand together and everyone avoid the e-toll roads, this will through the who e-toll system into chaos. They will not generate a profitable income. The company abroad will suffer severe losses. But, that is only if people stand together and leave the highways empty

The highways will not be empty, Cool E's band of criminals (taxi drivers) will be there wiping each other out with their unroadworthy vehicles and reckless driving and not paying a cent towards fixing any of the damage that they cause.

Well, that will be just fine with me. Image how we will enjoy rush hour traffic in the back roads. I even see some new entrepreneurs jumping up - selling coffee, wi-fi in areas, advertising space. etc. to those driving through their once quiet streets.

Lets wait and see. I just fitted etag on my brand new bike. Weekends will be much fun.

Just imagine how fun weekends would be if you could get on that bike of yours and travel on all highways around Gauteng without paying a cent.

The highways might even be quiet enough to cycle on!

I'm definitely not driving on any highways if they launch this. Back roads all the way!

Er why is mybb publishing pro e-toll articles.I would rather you not publish junk like this that encourages people to register for the corrupt etoll system.

The implications of this system being successful are much larger than just paying for using a road.If we even remotely support or warm up to the idea of etolls we will be giving government the message that we are a bunch of lazy ignorant fools who don't know how to stand up for ourselves so go ahead and milk us in any way you can dream of.We will be milked for corrupt projects repeatedly hereafter until the economy can support it no more.

This etolling system must fail or the country is going to be dragged down by corruption from the top.

I'm an optimist and I believe our country can be great, but if we allow corruption on a large scale like this to exist we will fail miserably and be just another poor african country ravaged by the "clever" western governments and betrayed by our own people in power.

MyBB articles are news articles written by journalists (or supposed to be). They are not here to push their own or your personal opinions, but to report the news, in a balanced and fair manner. In order to do that, they also have to consider the other side of the story.

Legal experts please chime in. What if we all just paid our due tolls without tags within the grace period by making an eft into sanral but an amount thats, say, R12 more or less and then wait for them to prosecute. At which point we will all have proof of payments and they must pay for legal fees? In which case we can all hire the most expensive attorneys available!!! :D

Quite a few flaws contained herein. But ok. Anyone have the sanral EFT details to topup your etoll account?

Weekends?

Have fun avoiding your taxi brethren, they are quite fond of wiping out kids on tricycles.

This is he reality of it, and even with civil disobediance the first few will be prosecuted. It'll take a massive united effort to kill this off... if it even gets killed off. They might even implement a special court like in 2010 to just deal with theee matters quickly. Soon as bread winners are threatened with jail, or assets taken we'll see a change and peopke will pay. Who would put thier children at risk like that? Many of the first to be prosecuted will sserve jail time or suffer the fines and legal costs. Are you willing to risk it? Are you willing to put your family at risk? Are you willing to serve jail time?

This is the time for everyone to stand together and not use these African National Corruption milkeries. Will not be using their roads so that doesn't bother me but what does is getting an account knowing the car was at home. This may be a good time to switch to a tracking insurer to have proof of where the car has been. This legislation is unconstitutional and gives Scamral more power than SARS. The country is slowly turning into a dictatorship. Way to go in singlehandedly destroying everything you fought for 19 years ago. It will not go unchallenged by the rest of us.

F you Sanral and the cANCer! **** both of you. Im not buying, suck my Dick

Withholding your vehicle licence for unpaid fines has already been ruled as unconstitutional, SANRAL will not have any better luck enforcing that.
And using the Criminal Procedure Act to enforce payment will also soon be challenged constitutionally.
SANRAL will not be able to use either of those routes. :p ;)

I have a big problem with a profiteering company being given its own set of laws and regulations to use against the citizens of South Africa: SANRAL is a registered company that the cANCer government expects will make a significant profit from etrolling, if that was not the case, SANRAL would have been registered as a non-for-profit company.

Surely it has to be unconstitutional for a registered company to be given more rights and privileges than the citizens of the country?

I really hope things will turn out that way :)

Exactly!
