I see crystal web are offering premium and standard uncapped now. Is the shaping the same on both accounts? and what is the rolling window on shaping?

Before the site launched, Crystal Web posted a breakdown of the shaping for basic, premium and business, but whether that is still the same, I can't say.

From the original description, basic will use the standard IS star rating system whereas premium will be dynamic.

Home Basic Uncapped

Basic uncapped is offered as a shaped service. The service is typically unshaped as standard, however the more peak time usage in business hours that passes through the account, the heavier the shaping that will be applied to the account by means of deprioritisation of certain protocols, starting with download protocols. You can ensure that you are not affected by this shaping, by keeping all large downloads scheduled to run from midnight to 6am, and ensuring that no streaming services that are bandwidth intensive are left on for excessive hours in a day. Your shaping is determined by way of a star rating system that looks at usage behaviour over a 10 day rolling window, so should your account be affected, you can always limit data throughput temporarily to revert the account back to a less unaffected, or completely unaffected state. Shaping is applied to ensure that costs are kept as low as possible, which makes this account accessible for users of a low demand nature. This service can be cancelled or downgraded with one month's calendar notice supplied.
Home Premium Uncapped is a service that only shapes your downloads, and does not throttle accounts. It is intended primarily for streamers and gamers, and for downloaders who are able and willing to schedule their downloads for midnight to 8am. Downloads operating outside of these hours are shaped dynamically to ensure that bandwidth is shared equally. Should an account be identified to be running permanently with constant data throughput in peak and off peak, such accounts may be deprioritised to allow others with less peak usage more access to the network. This results in a fair and equitable sharing of bandwidth among premium users. This service can be cancelled or downgraded in the same month, provided the notice is given before the 19th of each month, for the next month's amendments.

The crystalweb rep has a well deserved weekend off :D

Streaming and nntp is running 100% this morning. In the South on a capped account.

Also had full speed for the 6 hours from 00:00 - 06:00

Loving this.

It really has been too since I had an account that just bloody works! Should have moved yonks ago.

Streaming is working ok for me this morning. I actually managed to watch F1 in high def (sort of) with very little buffering.
NNTP between 00:00 and 08:00 was iffy. i.e. fluctuating badly between 100 mb/s and 1mb/s.

We have had to change our usage pattern over the past week after a discussion with Shaun Kaplan. Based purely on the support CrystalWeb provides this is the best ISP I have dealt with. Just keep doing what you are doing Crystalweb.

So signed up for the R295 capped account with 10Mbps line for R640 p/m

Will see how it goes coming from Telkom capped account and Openweb unshaped capped account.

Crystalweb using IS backbone. I always thought you guys used Cybersmart backbone

gameofthrones.iso leaked last night, downloading them all at max speed. Can't wait to try out the new distro.

They did. Until February this year when they migrated over entirely.

Rain comes down and packet loss goes through the roof. Fck telkom.

Seeing as it is almost impossible to get through to Telkom on 10210 these days, how does one go about logging faults? Go into stores?

My exchange is congested between 8pm and 10pm every single night. Now I know it is likely not the exchange itself, but the DP I route through, so how do I report this now?

Anyone have a solution?

They have an online fault logging system on their Web site

I they think they also have some sort of sms reporting.
Can't remember the number though.

Cannot remember the last time I was on their website hehe.

Will go and investigate these options tomorrow!

Thank you guys.

Their online website fault logging is great. Even on a Sunday I log a call in the morning and in the afternoon the dudes rock up.

Meh still no Capped Bundles on their new products!

It's not listed on the site, but when you sign up for a capped account and you select a line option with it, you get the discount. CW commented that a page or 2 back :)

Hope that helps.

Unless I completely misunderstood his post...:erm:

Thank you whatwhat.

Just logged a fault. Was a bit confused as to which category congestion would fall under...but think I got it logged correctly. Here's to hoping they call me back and get some people looking into this.
