I don't know the technical side of it, but based on my experience there has yet to be a night where I don't get full max line speed from 00:00 till 06:00 :D

Getting a solid 9.5GB every night in those time slots on my 4mb line.

Thank you that is good to hear :)

CW,

I have two questions regarding Remote Desktop / RDP (port 3389)

1) Would Business Premium Capped give better performance for RDP during business hours than Premium Uncapped?

2) If yes to 1, would Business Premium Capped give better performance for RDP during non-business hours than Home Premium Uncapped?

thx

It's been a while since I've needed to post here :D
This still isn't a complaint though, just a general question.

Does anyone else with CW have GTA 5? My friends I play with are with WA and MWEB, the WA one stays around the corner from me.

Loading times seem a Lot quicker/shorter for them versus me. I have the strongest PC of the lot, so don't think it has anything to do with that?

Cheers

Out of curiosity, what line speed would you need to view things such as Netflix and Youtube in 1080p and Twitch at source?

Has highest priority on the network for, well, everything. No shaping rules applied. That is data intended to run a business on.

Twitch source depends largely on the source itself. For everything else, 10Mbps and up is recommended.

And does this apply after hours?

I want to supplement my home premium uncapped with business premium capped. I want to route RDP & SSH through the capped account. Oh and not forgetting mybroadband.co.za!

Applies at all times. :)

Awesome. Home Premium Uncapped & Business Premium Capped = best of both worlds :D

Thanks for the assistance.

To be fair, I do a fair amount of VPN and RDP work on home premium uncapped and I've never seen an issue. Even during "streaming" hours.

I'm not having issues, but my RDP destinations are international. I would be happy to pay for business capped if I could shave off even the slightest bit of latency.

Are torrents throttled 24/7? I know it's supposed to be shaped only, but this definitely feels like throttling. Last night I started the first big torrent downloading since joining Crystalweb, I opened it about 22:30, and I expected it to be slow for the first hour or so due to shaping, which is fair enough. However, I left it overnight as I was made to believe that it shouldn't be shaped at all after midnight.

The torrents have more than enough seeds, yet it only did a measily 2GB worth of downloading in 8 hours. Can this be explained?

Not impressed. Was told to schedule these types of downloads for after hours, but now it seems even that is not good enough. Please tell me what options I have in order to get torrents moving faster with Crystalweb, because this is unacceptable.

Can you PM me your details? I'll take a look and see what I can pick up my side for you. It certainly doesn't sound right.

Just something on the technical terms here. Throttling isn't a harder level of shaping. Throttling is the process of dropping your entire account speed down to normally 10% of line speed. Everything then is "shaped". We don't do that.

I see you already had a reply, but just want to mention that I had one torrent downloading and it completed at an average of 381kB/s on a 4Mbps line.
That is pretty good for an average on a torrent.

I've never heard anything about Throttling being specifically 10% - and this was about 30% of my max line speed ability. However, there's no way throttling and shaping can be clearly distinguished by me as a user. However, before moving to Afrihost(my previous ISP), I was at Plugg who used a star rating system, which gave similar results to what I had overnight last night, which led me to believe it is throttling, rather than shaping. That, and the fact that I was told that shaping doesn't apply at all "after hours".

I will send you a PM now.

Yes, that's what I was hoping for too, but didn't get. Thus my post. ;)

Throttling = nothing comes down faster than x%
Shaping = protocol y comes down at x%, but protocol z comes down at line speed.

I must say, I am very impressed with CW's performance. The levels of service and responses on MYBB are very good.

I think no matter what people do or say, they will either be haters or fanbois. Look at Apple vs Samsung, console vs PC etc. I think in terms of CW, this forum is good to see if there are any issues with individual accounts or any related queries, and I believe comments are allowed to be made if something negative is happening, and people should not be shot down if they are experiencing problems that they would like resolved. I also believe people should not be shot down if they state that they believe the product is good, as how else are people meant to know how good a product is if the only time people say anything is if there is a problem. I frequently look at reviews and forums when making decisions on products or services that I purchase, and getting a well rounded view on the product helps me greatly in making that decision. Nothing is perfect and people should expect problems here and there, but the way it is resolved speaks volumes about a company. In CW's case, they seem to reply quickly, are very transparent, and do not try and sugarcoat things when being blunt is what is necessary.

This being said, I will definitely choose CW if service levels remain the same next year when I am in charge of choosing an ISP (Am on CW now BTW).

Again, as I said, there is no way for me to know whether it was shaping or throttling, as I was asleep, and only had torrents open.

But it's neither here nor there, because either way the speed was crap and hopefully we can find out why.
