Will it be something affecting existing accounts, or a new type of account? Can you give me a hint (even via PM)

I'd need to cancel my existing account now in order not to get stuck with it for the next month.

Go chat with a Sales rep on their website :)

obvious mweb troll is obvious .........

but just to add, I have an average of 40ms lower than when I was with mweb and I can finally stream properly with no buffering

I can't tell if you mean that as an endorsement for CW or a hint there might be greener pastures elsewhere :)

I think CW is perhaps the greenest pasture, if downloading/moving gigs is the focus. News server is great too. So definitely an endorsement.

Personally I'm not a downloader/gigs mover. I stream and use real time services, used to game, and IS has always left me disappointed in that respect.

Just challenging your statement about IS being the best. :)

Not trolling. Really glad you're finally happy. I followed the abnormal issues you had, nice to finally have a solid ISP.

Perhaps if downloading/moving gigs is the focus. IMO, of course. ;)

Last time I checked IS has acquired the network assets of the second largest consumer ISP ...
So you really have SAIX/TI; MTN and IS in the big networks followed by a couple of smaller ones

I'm not sure about the details, but Business users were moved over to IS, yes.

Core network as well:

And Optinet is definitely within the IS guys scope of control ;)

Fair enough. Said ownership has not affected the experience for Home users, though.

Anyway, I just feel that if there is one distinct advantage to IS, it's downloading. Due higher allowance (00h00 - 07h00), news server, etc. We all have different feelings about what the best is, and being able to download is obviously important to a lot of people.

my feeling about what is best is irrelevant - the notion of best seems to be the focus of quite a debacle on whether Vodacom is the "best network" (mobile wise)
the point here is that NTT is the holding company of a massive array of assets that collectively form the IS backbone network; this backbone network is used by several providers in various configurations - you'll recall my building of cars analogy earlier.

To speak of any consumer DSL provider's network you need to consider Telkom network assets and the backbone network. On the Telkom end there isn't much room for configuration nuances by an ISP but the backbone does have configuration room to play with and we've worked with quite a lot of tools on the backbone. What you are seeming to miss is that your statements about the "IS network" are misplaced because as can be demonstrated the pipe which most of our products operate through is different to the pipe which IS reseller accounts work on and IS are the backbone provider for several different configurations and pipes - INCLUDING what you are claiming to be a superior network. If you want to make a claim that the network and configuration used for reseller accounts has XYZ attributes vs alternate network configuration (on whichever backbone) then sure but there is a jump from species to genus here and then comparing the genus with one of the species (without acknowledging that you are comparing species to species).

I am very weary of settling for the best or rushing to the appellation because when it comes to these sorts of things there is always means to improve - and sometimes mistakes can be made in trade offs and the art of network management is ever evolving. I am not entirely sure how it is possible to not value the ability to download.

What I can very confidently say is that no consumer product in the market is on a network where more resources are deployed relative the customer base as our premium products - and that consumers here include business customers who are consumers of DSL Internet connectivity

What I can also very confidently - and proudly - say is that no other ISP has a customer relationship that is as directed at promoting the customer and fairness as a feature of a relationship rather than an excuse as ours does.

lots of buffering this evening with showtime (streaming from the USA). no option of after hours support at 21:45 (welcome to Africa as 1st world experience just can't be had).

hope it comes right as i have been happy with the service for the last couple of weeks.

WinMTR? Run it and post the logs. Everything can help them find issues and resolve them going forward.

Please could you PM me your email address/DSL Username with a WinMTR trace to crystalweb.co.za so I can investigate further for you and provide feedback.

Correct Paul.

IS might own Optinet, but Optinet certainly still manages that infrastructure ("their" infrastructure), just like before the sale. MWEB Connect remains Optinet's largest customer.

Indeed and I hope things very strongly stay the way in which Optinet is a team and product set within the broader IS ecosystem and internal competition is vital. To be honest while I know MWEB Connect are not Optinet's only customer I am not sure who their other customers are.
