Good evening.
Was thinking of joining CW, but found out that they don't support email accounts?? Thats not good
Surely a person must have the whole package, Mweb, Afri, Axxes sure all have email adresses, even WA!

Thanx

Chris

That's a bit silly, I can't remember when last I even thought of an ISP based account, gmail negates any such need.

We seemed to have the same issues at AfriHost (TS lag and packet loss, game lag, etc, etc). These issues have gone away at CW?

I moved away from Afrihost because of issues with Mumble when recording or hosting a podcast. It got SO bad, so maddeningly frustrating (1000ms latency does a number on your brain, lemme tell you), that I signed up for every capped trial I could find on a different network/backbone and tested things for an hour each. I didn't try CW at that point, I was using Web Africa to influence my decision, but I saw zero packet loss (where I used to see 1% or 2% on occasion).

My only issues now are actual services on the web, the deplorable upload speed courtesy of Telkom and loadshedding kicking off exchanges around the country. Other than that, as well as troubleshooting initial teething issues (very small ones), I haven't had to contact support in a good long while. I do want to set up dynamic DNS at some point, but I'll need my PFSense server up before that happens.

CW,
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is the Home Premium Uncapped option supposed to be greyed out on the customer portal? If so, when can we start logging into it? :)

It is, and I'm hoping to give you guys some early access there today still, but with very basic features while we iron out the more advanced features that are going to release in the portals.

^ this. Don't use an ISP email account, because if you change providers you end up having to keep paying for the email address!

Hi guys

I have a strange problem with the website of Supersport. It loads without picture etc. Just text and blue hyperlinks showing...
Can some of the tech savy people out here test and confirm if it is just me, Supersport or CW. After about 20 refreshes it will load normally with pictures etc...

I doubt it to be CW because the rest of the net is working fine...

Kind regards

Supersport works 100% for me, browsing, streaming HD etc

@CW

Still waiting for a reply on my PM from a few days ago...

Thanks, and apologies for the late response. We can pick up what the issue is here. Let me highlight it below:

Router is dropping 5% of packets there.

I believe the issue here isn't with how we classify this particular stream (which I have confirmed is 100% on our end) but that the router is having intermittent problems - or the wireless has a lot of congestion on the channel you're using. Or the cable has an issue if it's cabled up. We tested and did some deep packet investigation of that stream to determine whether the classification of every type of packet is correct and it is on our end. I think you need to look at testing with another router for a while there and get back to me with some more info to see if it helps. I suspect it will, greatly.

Will try the backup router when I'm back next holiday, hopefully it fixes the problem...

Thank you crystalweb. I have been downloading GTA V on steam and it has been sitting at 366kb/s for the entire duration so far. About halfway now and I can't wait to play. Not bad at all for a 4mb line!

Pleasure. :D

It will shape on uncapped tonight again.

And there is a known issue at the moment if you end up connecting to certain Mweb caches of the Steam site for GTA where the throughput is very up and down. Seems their server is taking some massive strain - not related to us on that front. I already investigated this today.

Looks like this problem may be fixed now by them. All good again.

+1 This is how MWeb tried to keep hold of me back in the Black Box days, at least back then they were "good" lol

It is very hard to beat GMail for email unless you need something secure, in which case an ISP provided email address is also terrible idea.

Setup your own mail server, encrypt everything and you're set.

Don't rely on people who make money off of you, especially for security.

Internet crawling in PE this evening on CW/IS capped.

0.1 (yes that's correct) mbps speedtests to CT, downloads crawling. On a 20mbps line.

Seems ok on VOX, but not perfect.

Would love to know when things will return to normal - initially thought loadshedding was wrecking things.

EDIT: have a Web Africa home capped pro account as well (also IS) and things are flying on there.

What's up with my CW capped account ?

This is getting annoying.

Speedtest.net PE to CT (Telkom SA SAIX server)

CW Capped: 34ms ping, 1.58 mbps down, 1.88mbps up http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4294771397
WA Home Capped: 37ms ping, 16.55 mbps down, 1.99 up http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4294781255

WTF.

Anyone at CW care to explain ? Both IS backbone accounts yet my CW account is like 56k dial-up.

I'm also seeing extremely slow page loads on my line and very high pings, easily in the 2000ms range every hour or so. I don't know if its related, though, because it looks like I have issues at the exchange, not with CW itself.

Maybe run a tracert to www.mybroadband.co.za and www.crystalweb.co.za and post the results here?

I had a bit of connection borking about an hour ago that was resolved after a proper reboot of the router

I suspect something up on the infrastructure here in civilization

Can you PM me the usernames for both accounts you tested on please? I'd like to look into this one a little deeper as yours and one other's are the only issues tonight from this product group on support.

thewusman is in the same area, at least in terms of Telkom connectivity, to the both of you. So if you're all seeing similar issues at the moment my guess is we have isolated the culprit somewhat.

Telkom taking vengeance on civilization?
