Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

If your using unofficial roms essentially you are accepting that there may be problems, they are after all custom and modified to add additional functions that may or may not work perfectly in all conditions. That's something you should rite fully understand before going the custom route, your essentially complaining about your own choices that you willing made of sound mind and body without any external coercion.

I installed about 15 custom roms on my nexus s and about 12 of them were terrible, but that was my choice and any problems are not the fault of my handsets manufacturer nor that of the official software developers or vendors and were essentially the responsibility of a team of guys/girls who probably do not get paid for the custom development in order to give us additional features that are intended to enhance the experience of the device. Tee fact that its unofficial and custom inherently are a warning that bugs may exist, actually its quite likely. This is not to say that official releases are flawless, but under those conditions your points are valid, yet however developers can also not test under all possible scenarios and with every possible of 3rd party application that also may or may not have an effect over the overall experience.

As for the serious drop in battery life, that is not true, it was designed with yes many more features, but also many more enhancements and at the very worst its battery life is equal to that of its predecessors, but in most cases is actually better, myself any many other noticed extensions in battery life as reported here on MyBB and XDA after upgrading to ICS on a number of different handsets, on my nexus s the battery life was almost doubled after the upgrade, my note I cannot testify too as it was upgraded less than 12 hours after I got it.

CranialBlaze:

1) I fully appreciate the risks and terms associated with custom roms. It's obvious enough that a kid understands it.
2) My gripe is with OEM's not releasing official upgrades sooner therefore pushing us to (1) above (where btw we lose our warranties).
3) If my Note's battery performance deteriorated since I loaded ICS who are you to tell me I'm lying because others didn't experience the same? I can't even get to 15:00 now on one charge.
4) The Android ecosystem sux when it comes to readily available accessories. Fact.

Nah dude, u gotta do so e audit of ur apps or suming, I got the uk ics on my note and I get 2-3 days out of it. Somethings seriously wack with ur note.

Thank you all for recommending me this sick phone. Love it! MUCH better then the Nokia N8. Is there a way to delete Touchwiz? I want a vanilla Android experience. Have so many apps installed now trying to mimic that.

Personally I just use Apex, some others recommend Nova, launchers as well as widget locker, as far as I know that's the easiest way to get away from touchwizz, the other way I know of would be to go get the RC1 of CM9 that came out a few days ago.

As far as I know touchwizz is essentially just the launcher and stupid lock screen so for about R40/R50 you can quite easily get rid of it plus add a fair mess of additional customization's.
Apex and nova both have "trial" versions, but widget locker si only R12 and well worth it anyway, fully customize your lock screen add your own shortcuts/widgets to the screen as well as to the unlock ring itself. Never used the stock unlocker so not sure what its 2 options are, but with WK you can set up to 8.

WidgetLocker is just plain awesome, and well worth the money... until you discover MIUI :)

Tried MIUI, but I feel like I am insulting my phone by giving it a rom that essentially downgrades it to that rubbish that comes out of the bowels of an apple.
If I wanted and iK@k I would of bought one.

+1. MIUI as a ROM is pretty good, but the iOS style launcher blows.

Good to see my term iKak used the other day is catching on :D

I hear you... But the functionality of MIUI combined with a proper launcher = sweetness.

Ur term, I been using it for years, ever since I made the catastrophic life altering mistake of buying one. As far as I am concerned iPhone was a typo, being american idiots they mispelt ****.

Personally was never that into custom roms, the one and only reason I tried MIUI was at the time they had mad slightly more progress than CM, who soon took back the lead. I am fully contenet with official roms as long as they rooted. The only non-standard feature I use from cm9 was deep-idle and that only worked at v7 anyway.

I have looked through all the extras of a number of custom roms, and the only feature I care about is the OS I cannot officially get, so until a RC of Jelly Bean is released for the note I could not br bothers by miui, cm or any other custom developer.

Hi,

Any ideas where I can get a xtra battery and battery charger kit, I have tried the samsung shop @canal walk and cellucity canal walk and they have nothing!

If all fails, I go eBay.

only place i shop, got my zagg screen protector and mem card their.
Could not get the protector here and ebay was almost $15 cheaper.
Mem card was a 32gb class 10 for R160.

Forget all else failing, I care more about not being ripped off.

Yesterday my notes alarm went off, snoozed a couple of times, and then it turned off. The unit does not turn on, have removed battery, tried pressing various combinations of buttons, but no luck.

The unit was on charge and battery is full.

Seems like it must be a warranty case.

Anyone have a similar issue.

Using a Vodafone 858 android device, so I have become a patient person with a damn small screen. One thing is for R800, it is a good droid.

When I asked them at the samsung store at canal walk they told me to try the distributors in Montague Gardens I think its Samtech, but I haven't tried them yet. I'm getting just over 24 hours use atm on official gb stock rom without working it to hard I'll consider it if I need to work the phone more.

I saw expansys selling the battery (R260) and the charger stand at R175 (http://www.expansys.co.za/samsung-holder-and-battery-charger-for-galaxy-note-5-3-224726/) but haven't bought from them before. LMK what you go for!

@BeVonk.... I too had issues on the stock GB & ICS Roms, My wife has Stock GB, unrooted (basically out the box with the 2.3.6 OTA) and she experiences the exact same kak I did. Battery life is pretty dismal regardless of ROM IMO, big screen = short battery life. The Note will regularly freeze up for like 30 seconds or so untill you get task not responding message or it recovers.

I have now tried ParanoidAndroid v0.4 & RocketRom v7. Paranoid feels and looks like the Tablet style, it runs very smoothly & I had no freezes. Only issue I had was I could not send SMS's, no matter what I tried. RocketRom is pretty much Vanilla ICS by the looks of it (only flashed it Sat evening) So far no issues .... everything works, its a little faster than stock ICS IMO, and I think I'll hang on to this ROM for a bit....

hi guys

so im pretty happy with my note, even though I think the battery is quite dismal. I dont really expect to much though, as this screen is quite big hey.

Im running stock GB with 2.3.6 OTA, and finding the battery drain overnight at about 30%! eina!

I wanna ask you guys about car cradles. I was thinking of getting this for my car? Its a cradle and charger in one. But then I was thinking hold on, maybe I should just get one of these generic cradles and one of these adapters and just run a micro usb cable

Would that work? And it would probably be a bit cheaper I think, and I would have that cable to carry around if need be?
