Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

so how many of you use the voice funtion on your note?

I was playing around with S3's "siri" and it works quite well. Seems like the notes isnt that good though! :(

When we finally get ICS does our voice function get upgrades as well?
 
I'm due for an upgrade mid September and have been having my eye on the S3 but somehow I tend to lean to the Note more. I heard the Note 2 might be coming out somtime this year possibly with Android's Jellybean?

I'm currently stuck with a BB so I'm completely new to Android... would you guys recommend to go for the Note as is and just upgrade to Jellybean (if possible) or wait to see what Note 2 offers? (sorry if this is in the wrong thread, I'm new to the forum)

Depends what you after hey? the S3 is a really amazing device, but then so is the HTC One X.. except for the wifi issue.. :erm:

If you really wanna get a Note, I would wait it out till the end of the year. The Note 2 will be out by then

I'm an all-in-one typa gal, can't imagine running around with a phone and tablet. I want to have access to my study material if I'm on the go (and effortlessly making notes is a bonus), a good camera and a good and reliable ;) OS which won't require me to reboot 6 times a day to get something done.
My only problem is not having a physical keybord, will lose it if I'm going to struggle with typing, hence the bigger screen with the Note (hoping it will be much easier).
I'm not a very patient person so waiting for the Note 2 will not be easy but looking at the rumored specs, it should be worth it

Well just got the note a few weeks ago for many of the same reasons, but honestly the onscreen keyboards are pretty good, if you don't stick with the stock rubbish. I found it very easy typing on the Nexus S which is smaller than the S3 coming from a 9300.

For what you need though the bigger screen will suite you well, I find ready a breeze on my note, weather its news from flipboard, websites or even documents and ebooks.
The pen is definitely great for notes and if you watch the 6 short videos sammy put together you will find some nice little tricks, like holding int he spen button and double tapping the screen overlays a notepad over whatever you are working in.

Camera is somewhat impressive, definitely better than my Nexus S and well, comparing it to my blackberry would just be insulting my poor Note.

If you have the CASH and the patience then waiting for the Note 2 is not a bad idea, it will be coming out pretty dam expensive. The original note is still R7800. Worst case you will get the original Note way cheaper after the Note 2 is out.

Thanx, you've confirmed all I needed to know, just have to wait out the next 2 months till upgrade date and then decide if I'll stick it out longer till the Note 2 release. i'm hoping the pricing will be lower than expected like with the S3, will have to wait and see.
 
How fair is this.... The American networks get official ICS today.... Yet we still wait for our fail-providers to wake up.... I mean seriously...?

I'm just a little concerned about the brickbug thingie... Yes, there are ways to prevent it, but still.... But apparently, those that like to flash, new firmware surfaced this morning, 4.0.4 German release available on Sammobile.....
 
Hey, I was just curious to find out whether anyone has received the official update to ICS?

A friend of mine has a Galaxy Note, and he has been whining about the fact that he's still on Gingerbread. But I did some Google searching, and as far as I can tell the update for the international GSM version of the Note was released two months ago: http://www.motoringcrunch.com/news/mobile-tech/10597-samsung-galaxy-note-android-40-update

Is this just one of those situations where the update has been released, but it hasn't been pushed out by the South African cell networks?

Alternatively, if the OTA doesn't work, is it possible to update the Note via Kies? Any advice would be appreciated.

My wife has the Note, and I the Galaxy S2. The Note is fantastic, especially for the reasons you describe, in my opinion. The screen is really big enough to do lots of reading on, even for hours on end. The Amazon Kindle app also has nice options for reading, among others. Just great to make notes one, including powerpoint slides. Its quick and fast as well, I would suggest you get someone trustworthy to upgrade the firmware to the latest version (if you don't want to do it yourself) to get it even faster and smoother.

Samsung has apparently not submitted release to Vodacom and the rest for testing. Samsung can only push network approved updates to users.
 
The 4.0.4 update was pushed to official German ROM phones this morning. I updated with no problems. Minor visual changes here and there, hopefully they sorted out the emmc bug and will push this out to SA phones soon.

Some folks are reporting performance increase on this newer firmware...? Are you experiencing any change in performance?
 
I called this ICS thing weeks ago, bet you anything we will only get an OTA on a version that disables the specific emmc bug ;) But anyway, RocketRom works fantastically for me, I get 3 X the battery life my wife gets on her stock GB Note (she wont let me flash it). And I have not had a single app freeze on me ... yet.

Question is, which version they testing.... 4.0.3 or 4.0.4......? This would also go together with Samsung SA saying:

Hi Craig, we will be alerting our note fans very soon about the ICS update. We are sure you are anxious to get it:)

Everyone always says that after a firmware update. I think it's about the same as 4.0.3. So far everything seems stable. I guess I'll be able to report on this after a week of use. That said I didn't have any major issues with 4.0.3, except battery drain a few times.
 
Any feedback on LRG yet folks? Busy downloading it now to have a look. Am currently on CM9 nightlies but the issues with the external SD card won't go away for me and it's getting annoying.

So how are you getting root again if I flash LRG? I was going to wait for CF but impatience might get the better of me as my download will be finished in 45 minutes :)
 
There are two new features in 4.0.4: one is signature unlock (draw your signature to unlock) the other is pop up play (from the S3) - basically picture in picture, you can watch a smaller version of a video while doing other things, you can drag the video around if it is blocking something, very smooth.
