Official Samsung Galaxy Note (N7000) Thread

Mind you, a lot of people are saying that 4.0.4 is faster and more responsive that 4.0.3..... One user also said it felt like a final product, what 4.0.3 should have been right from the start.... This is sounding very interesting, maybe something to consider.....
 
Dear all, I just posted this in another thread, and I think I'll repost here, just in case someone likes this method of rooting and flashing a custom ROM. (Let me know if I made a mistake!)

I echo that answer. That is also the most 'correct' thing to say...

I would recommend using Cyanogenmod9 for newcomers, that is the ROM I am using as well (I have used others too). I think, because it has such a big development team behind it, it tends to have fewer problems (for me, none now), so it is quite stable. Others would probably contest this statement, which is totally cool too.

It is the most 'popular' ROM too, I believe.

My method of Rooting and upgrading Galaxy note to Cyanogenmod9 ROM:

I root the device using Chainfire's method of flashing a particular stock firmware with Odin, in that particular instance it won't increase your flash counter as well. I find this the easiest most worrisome free method of rooting the Note. Go halfway down page and read this paragraph "1.3. If you are not rooted yet: Flash a modified FACTORYFS". Reboot into Clockwork Mod Recovery, FIRST thing flash that Abyssnote Kernal, and simply choose reboot into recovery (not reboot into phone. Not a train smash if you do accidentally reboot phone, just reboot back into recovery and redo the step). This Abyssnote Kernal flashing step is the only extra step you need to perform due to using a Galaxy Note. Here's the link. You can choose any of the 4 files.

THEN ONLY do you wipe data, cache, dalvik, and flash the the CM9 ROM file (or whichever ROM you want to use). Reboot phone, and voila! Have awesomeness bestowed upon thee! Link for CM9.

Further reading, though it contains different as outlined above (my method works, as do others, don't worry too much about differences). Just for your info :)

I tried to flash LRG last night from Abyssnote 4.2/CM9 and ended up in a bootloop. I had no idea how to get out of it because of course CWM recovery was not there so my options were download mode and recovery mode.

I ended up flashing a CM9 nightly from recovery and then restored my earlier made nandroid so now I'm back at square one.

It might be best to first flash GB rom, then wipe data, and clean install LRG.... I'm going to wait for a UK version to pop up, then I'll flash that version....

Yeah, I was being lazy, but I paid the price in sweat. Another big download on my connection was too much to bear but I'll get it today and do it properly :)

Warranty doesn't cover water damage due to sweat and tears.... :D

After so much farting around, I finally have stock 4.0.4 loaded.

Report...........It has been about 3 minutes and I miss CM9 already.

The current CM9 is 4.0.4.
From what I gathered, the reason you guys are wanting the latest stock is for 4.0.4? And you had it? :confused:

I've not had stock on this Note since I bought it and just thought I'd have a look. The reason I wanted the stock 4.0.4 is because it is there :)

But man, it surely ain't worth the hassle. I'll be going back to the nandroid I made this afternoon with a happy face and my curiosity quenched.

I hear you dude. I wanted try out some of the updated ROMS a few days ago. Lasted about an hour on one of them and stopped experimenting. Restored my CM9 and lived happily ever after.

Once you used to CyanogenMod I think you will struggle to use something else. I know I do.

I am pretty happy with stock, only ever bothered with CM as my nexus s could not get ICS officially, CM never offered me anything I could not do with a rooted stock rom. Stock galaxy note even support a fully functioning deep idle. That was probably the only advantage is saw in CM over stock ics for the nexus s.

Stock is definitely more stable than CM9v7 was.
 
currently running kingdroid v4.4 aroma installer with gl_notecore v3b standard.

butter smooth. good battery life. really happy with it.

i have used PA 0.4 and aokp but i seem to prefer touchwiz roms...
 
Im really struggling to find a clear guide on exactly what I must do to upgrade to stock ICS

Can someone point me in the right direction please?
 
Try This thread, it gives a good explanation about flashing to stock roms. Be aware of the emmc brick bug, even on the very latest firmwares, there are reports of folks bricking their devices....
 
Brick bug is still there, according to XDA, there are 4 or 5 reported cases so far of bricking on the latest 4.0.4 firmware. Still the same conditions, but strangely, all of them were reported to be factory wiping in recovery mode. Still better to play safe, as if you do brick due to wiping data, your warranty is void....
 
I loaded the GB rom and did a factory wipe from that, then flashed 4.0.4 with no need for a wipe. Added CF root and it's good to go.

I thought I'd give it a few days of playing to see how it goes and after customising it a bit, I'm quite happy with it. Nice and smooth, battery excellent so far (unplugged at 6am, now 1.15pm and am on 81%). This with light to normal use, i.e. writing and reading a few emails, 45 mins music, facebook a couple of times, tapatalk a couple of time reading myBB etc.

Not bad at all.
