Official Tri-Nations 2011 Thread

Sad that - the first 3 tackels of the game would have had life bans for South Africans if they'd made them.
I'll agree with you on that!!!! The double standards are so blatant these days, not even subtle anymore!! It's a problem and don't be surprised to see a couple of Boks getting 6 week bans early on in the world cup...

Were there any citings?

Nope, no bok did anything to be cited for.

And I only saw one spear takle and and one high tackle from the Aussies, which is clearly not enough for a citing (even though the IRB rules states that any spear tackle = citing.).

Sheep-shagging..

ROFL :D

Yeah he is HUGE!!! Which is not a bad thing. We need monsters like him in our backline. It also helps to know you got someone who can kick drop goals and penalties from well within his own half!!

I would love to see him playing in SA again from next season. I'm not sure he grown as a player playing in France...

SA rugby screwed this one up as well. With him on Fullback and Raun pienaar on nr 9 we could have covered two of positions that the boks will not have "automatic" players after the WC 2011.

I think his kicking has improved, but his general running and positional play looks a little bit suspect imo.

No - not a single Bok was caught on camera doing anything wrong and Aussies are exempt from citings.

As are Kiwis, B&I Lions....

Did anyone else see the tackle where a bok's feet where lifted past shoulder height? Also the "clearing" of Fourie (nr 9) from the maul right infront of the linesman and with little arms involved?

I disagree. The commentators even mentioned his good defensive work when he made 2 tackles within 10 seconds, one on Beale and I didn't see the 2nd one. He is often being lauded for his big heart on defense so I'm sorry I don't endorse your he doesn't tackle sentiment..

Hennie Denilla, the vanilla gorilla!! Good at currie cup level but too slow at international level. Even Super 15 most of the time Riaan Viljoen was the preferred choice at 15...

Sandmanm - like him all you want. I don't - but I'd like to deviate with the input of commentators. I can recall some of those match stats where it showed the Own Lineouts Won/Lost. South Africa (according to that stat) didn't lose a single line out. Why do I raise this - well, there is too close a relationship between some commentators and sports agents. Talking someone up puts money in your pocket too if you are both commentator and agent.

Fortunately I don't have to watch Free State play rugby more than 3 times a year. But I think that he is the biggest full back around. If I had to choose one on form - it would be Ludik and then Lambie. Hell, even Killian could be there.

Agreed! Points went begging and citings don't exist. I stand to be corrected, but the ZA management can also point out grievances to the citing officials for review. Wonder if this happened...

Lol, doubt it, and even if it was it might well have been met by the "We will look into it" line :(

I feel that we should have won by about 10 points.

Problems:

We did not always tke the points on offer.
We couldn't convert possesion into points as well as not scoring when we were 5 meters out about 5 times.
Too many replacements and too many guys that had their first game in a while.

All and all I am sure we will rectify these problems and should be able to be a strong contender in this years WC.

Any update on John Smit's injury, I couldn't find anything.

Seems all is okay. Just sore but no major injuries. Will probably sit out the weekend's game in PE as a precaution.

Chiliboy, Lambie and Mvovo have joined the squad

My guess is it will take longer than 6 weeks to whack through those bushes he calls hair ;)

On a serious note. They did not tell us how long he will be out. Can't be too serious if he is staying with the squad in PE for rehabilitation.

Can it maybe be blessings in disguise that these guys get injured. I didn't watch the game, but what I saw is the Bismarck had a very good game when he came on. I would really like to Aplon at fullback, but must be honest. He had a disgusting performance on Saturday

He is not out of the WC... was released by SARU yesterday :( (I am not wishing him harm, I just want Biscmark to play and Smith not to play at all on prop )

+1. Also believe he will sit out this week.

Prob. about that amount of time or less. Doubt that he will be taken to the WC if he would miss more than one game.

Some more worrying info: "It's the fist time in 40 years the Boks have lost back to back home Tests against Australia, and they could for the first time lose all four Tri-Nations Tests"

Well it's normally 6 but it is shortened this year so even if we did it is a stat you cannot count :D. besides i would rather lose all 4 and win the world cup than do the typical nz thing and win the tri nations then get pomped in the WC.

We have lost 5 games before so 4 is not so bad.

I dunno man, I think we really are going to have a terrible world cup. I'm a supporter, but not blindly faithful either. We look old, tired, out of a gameplan and just not prepared at all. Saturdays performance was a mirror image of last year. We all know how last year went.

Tri-Nations is a far tougher competition than the world cup!! In fact there's no comparison. Yes the world cup means a whole lot more, it only comes around every 4 years and the players are therefore under a different type of mental pressure but physically the Tri-Nations is just insane...

Personally I'm quietly optimistic!! We going into the world cup rank underdogs and that suits the Boks just fine. We have a tough and tricky Wales 1st up but I reckon we will squeeze out a victory there. Then play to our strengths against Namibia, Samoa and Fiji and probably meet Ireland in the quarters!!! They'll fancy their chances of knocking us over but they wont!!! NZ in the semi's will be the big one. I don't see us winning that one but the ball aint round... so..... playoffs for 3rd 4th against either England or OZ and we will win that too. OZ don't have the legs or the depth to make an impact on the world cup...

Ok so lets play the Full team and injure a couple of players...to say that we did not lose all our games in a tri-nations, but we prefer coming in last in the tri nations with 1/4 victories to bettering our chances of winning the WC.

Look I get you think the Bokke are pathetic and I respect your opinion.
