So my current mobo and PSU decided to take a trip to the next life which leaves me in the bitter-sweet position of a forced upgrade.

I'm currently looking at this mobo:
DH55MC

With this CPU:
Clarkedale i3 540

Since the PC is used exclusively for media, I'm planning on running the graphics out the on board HDMI.

My question, more for future use than anything else, is: Will I be able to send audio through that HDMI port as well?
The long term goal is a home theatre setup with an amp, etc, so I'd run the HDMI cable into the amp, then from there to the screen.

Will this work or have I missed something?

Any other thoughts?

Have you considered the 2nd gen intel i series Sandybridge 1155 socket. It's about R100 more and requires a matching motherboard, but the technology is better, especially onboard graphics.

From what I've heard stock levels are currently ridiculously low on Sandy Bridge stuff. I just don't think I'm prepared to wait a month to get my PC back up and running again.

It appears only the 'K' series overclockable ones are currently in short supply. It doesn't sound like you need/want want of those. In any case, dealers are promising a shipment in a few days if they can be believed.
