Great post,turns out I like the Iphone X and S9 plus camera's the best,but since I need dual sim I went out and bought an S9 plus this afternoon..

If Samsung ever released an Android One edition of their latest flagship I'd probably buy it at release. I want to love their phones - the design is superb, best-in-class build quality, phenomenal camera, waterproof, curved screen, most vibrant display of any phone, big battery etc.

But I can't deal with the bloatware. I hate the skin, the icon pack, the launcher, the retarded Bixby and its dedicated button that can't be remapped, the unnecessary stock apps that can't be uninstalled (incl. Facebook ffs), their infuriatingly slow system updates (if they arrive at all), the lag they somehow introduce to what should be a blazing fast flagship and all the other pointless crap presented as features. I hate it all.

Possibly cause they cheat in their benchmark tests. Also they occasionally don’t fix bugs when they say they will. Copying the iPhone design with the 5 irked a lot of Apple fanboys. Lately their new model release time frame is a paltry 6 months. Well, since the 3. They perceived as becoming too expensive. There claims that the after sales support sucks and. And. And...

Edit: there may also be an element of snobbery associate with the brand as when OP first launched, you could purchase one by invite only.

The benchmark cheating was such unnecessary bad press for them. They could have just had a message pop up saying that a benchmark utility has been detected, and that switching to high performance mode in settings is recommended.

It's not OnePlus's fault that they've been copying Apple design for a while now, considering that they get 90+% of their designs from Oppo. Oppo are the copycats, not OnePlus. As for the 6 month product cycle, there's no excusing that. It's seriously not cool. I guess there's an argument to be made that the company might die if they can't keep hype levels high throughout the year, but being known as a buyer's remorse company can be much more damaging.

Many people are just totally unreasonable though. Their forum is filled with bulls**t posts moaning about missing features, when anyone with two brain cells can assume that adding the features will push the price up to Samsung and Apple levels.

That's exactly what OnePlus is all about.

Yeah, one can understand their upgrade cycle. A single device annually simply isn't going to cut it. Good to see them diversifying their product range with the earphones.

People definitely unreasonable when it comes to missing features. You can't expect all the bells and whistles on a device that comes in at just over $500. Wireless charging is a nice to have but DASH charging is just so good. IP67 rating would have all sorts of warranty implications for OP (+ the cost incurred in getting certified) so for now we must be content with dust and water resistant and from the video I posted earlier, it would take quite a long bath in fairly deep water to properly kill the OP6.

I must be honest, I was never a fan of the OP5 styling. Just too much like an iPhone. People would often mistaken the phone for an iPhone, or they would come with comments such as, "oh, you got yourself an iPhone knock off". I found comments like that disappointing.

I wont be purchasing this, definitely not a big enough upgrade over the 5T and its mainly because of:

1. Price, this may only be in Singapore, but its fokken expensive and works out to be about S$100-S$200 cheaper than a S9 /P20/P20 Pro/LG Q7 etc..
2. They removed the fingerprint scanner pulling down the notification bar? I cannot fathom why, it is literally one of the BEST features on the phone, its so convenient and just amazing.
3. Camera, it is still meh.

but saying that, Oxygen OS is just plain awesome which makes the OnePlus so attractive despite its flaws.

I'd like to know what you guys paid in the end (In $ or euro or whatever). total.

Not sure, i only got my 5T a few months ago and received Oreo quickly i guess? Not really keeping up to date with timelines and releases, there is never a huge difference between versions that affect me.

Thanks bud,ended up getting the S9 plus on Gumtree,brand new sealed R12k(guy had it advertised for R12500).

For me it was a no brainer,for R3k more no hassles of shipping/customs and instant gratification since I got the phone in a few hours.To top it all of the s9 plus camera is well ahead especially in low light conditions and I don't have to compromise with things like wireless charging and proper IP rated water proofing so something like washing my phone under a running tap leaves no doubt in my mind about how the phone will handle it.I used this regularly with my previous Samsungs and never had an issue.

Not sure if I missed this on previous Samsungs or if they didn't ever have it,but I was playing with the S9 plus yesterday and I found this feature in a menu somewhere,looks pretty cool.I've already found myself using it this morning.

Nice yea i don't know why OP decided against it, very odd.

edit: Ahhh i see they enabled it as a gesture on the screen, so swipe down anywhere to bring it down.
Dunno how will it will work, browsin myBB and wanna access notification but it instead scrolls, dunno. Guess we can get feedback when our people receive their phones

My 128GB Midnight Black was £519, my dad's 64GB Mirror Black was £469 and the Karbon Protective Case I got for my one was £23.95. Priority shipping was discounted on release day at £2.99. Total therefore £1014.94, or R17 079.

Kinda funny that for the price of one S9+ I got 2x OnePlus 6's (one of which not even the base model) and a nice cover.

I think it's a bit unfair to say the camera is meh. In every comparison article or video I've seen the differences are usually immaterial between the OP6 and other flagships.

Regarding fingerprint reader gestures, you can configure the down gesture on the display to pull the notification bar down, which I've used since the OnePlus One.

It never was? The OP3->5T were among the first non-vanilla devices to get Oreo. My OP5 got Oreo ages ago. Last year sometime. And I'm not in the beta program.

Yeah, that gesture only works on the homescreen. I would assume it's just a software thing and not a hardware limitation, so perhaps a future update will include it. It's important to bear in mind that OnePlus is much more focused on the Android P software than granular improvements to Oreo at this stage.

I would have saved a lot if my family travelling down were based in the US. The UK prices were quite a bit worse. I highly doubt it's OnePlus's fault though, as all phone prices in the UK are total garbage. Clearly a tax/duty issue going on there.

My motivation for buying the OP6's wasn't purely financial in nature though. I think it's a case of once you go OnePlus you just can't switch to something else. The way their phones bring vanilla Android, superb battery life, a premium feeling experience etc. altogether isn't done by many, if any, other manufacturers. I have friends and family with flagship iPhones, Huaweis, Samsungs etc. and I've never felt a moment's temptation to buy one after playing around with them for a while. OnePlus devices are just so lightning fast.

Roughly two months from the public release of Oreo. It's not fair to compare the Oreo rollout by OnePlus to the beta release of Oreo on Pixel devices. My OP5 updated to Oreo sometime in November, and as I've mentioned I'm not a beta tester. The official release date of Oreo is late August, so OnePlus was pretty damn snappy.

By contrast, the S8 Oreo update only really rolled out properly at the start of March this year.

I'm guessing around a month or 2...

You can get updates sooner by manually flashing beta firmware, but OnePlus is sufficiently fast with public rollouts that I've never felt the need. Certainly not a month, but two to three months is the norm.
