Oneplus 7T and 7T Pro

Guess it all comes down to cost. I wasn't in the market for an upgrade this year at all. 7 pro is still going strong and it's been a s hit year financially but @R399 over 24 months, it made sense for me to upgrade and push my pro onto my daughter who lives on her phone and loves her 6 and equally will love the 7 pro. Her 6 is 30 months old so an upgrade is due.

@Leisure Larry what you currently using?

Im not sure if size should be your motivating factor either way as within a week you'll be used to whatever you decide on. Not like your looking at something the size of a iPhone 12 mini. The size difference is negligible.

8pro is a beast, no doubt but what's that going to set you back? 18k at least in a lump sum payment v R399 over 24 months? 8 pro will run rings around 7t pro but it's nowhere near twice as good.

8t is a decent middle ground. Again all depends what it's going to cost all on.

For me cost was the primary driver. R9600 over 2 years is a lot more palatable than dropping R13-R18k lump sum.

I'm yet to spend more than 10k on a OnePlus.

I've used 3 OP devices.
OP1, OP3T and OP6, at which point I gave up on their weak haptics and single mono speaker. Xiaomi's single mono was/is quite loud. Moved to Mate 10 Pro for call recording IR Blaster and notification LED. Reconsidering OnePlus after I read the JOneplus tool trick for call recording. I can live without IR Blaster and notification LED even though I will really miss it.
And now looking at the size of these devices, it's the one thing that's going to irritate me even though the 399 x 24 months price is a steal!

..... and I can probably get the OP8T 8GB 128GB for around 10,5k all in.

8T at 10.5k is decent! I'd say that is your best option if you prepared to take the pain in a lump sum v 24 month contract... I'm assuming of course, that you, like me, have no use for the Vodacom minutes/sms/data included in the R399 deal? The actual monthly subsidy on the phone is R220 and R179 is the Vodacom contract it comes with. Not sure what they call it... 50sms/50min/350mb data...

Anyway, they claim to have vastly improved the haptic engine on the 8 series. I'm not finding it all that strong on the 7T Pro. But that might just be me... No IR, correct and LED notifications gone from the 7 Pro onwards..

The single biggest driver is price! It's excellent value for a very competent all rounder. Really enjoying the phone. Not dissimilar to my 7 Pro and significantly better than my OP6 in a number of key areas. The screen for one. Also stellar performance, super responsive and fast. Camera is also a big improvement (v OP6) but in 2020/21 lagging behind today's flagships! Still decent though!

On the other hand the 8T has got some really decent reviews too. Is 10.5k the 5g variant? Tough decision to make... Purely on specs alone the 8T has the 7T Pro beat except in one crucial category and that's screen pixel density.. 516 v 402! Would like to see the 7T Pro side to side with a 8T...

Can confirm. 8T is amazing. Haptics are top notch as well and the flat screen is most welcomed.
I really like the curve on my 7T Pro, immediately stands out and I have not had the issue with accidental touches.

The device is awesome, my dad is really enjoying it having upgraded from a OP6.

Unfortunately for me my order is still pending three weeks in, apparently my profile is on a legacy system and hasn't been migrated. Seems like if I want to order it it will have to be in store at an inflated monthly price.

mine was over a week in the pending state, their confirmations team has a backlog.

there is still hope.
Thanks, so i tried to call them 3 times yesterday as their admin email said i should phone in to follow up, but each time i got cut off 3 times, first time i didn't get past the menu system and 2nd and 3rd times i got cut off once i was speaking to an actual person. Finally got to speak to someone on the 4th try, I asked for the original consultant and they said they would get him to call me. I heard nothing back from the guy and now it's close of business the next day. Am thinking i got the WFH guy who doesn't take his job seriously ( could hear children in the background when we spoke the first and only time) but the vibe i got was that he was on a semi-vacation.

That's crazy, why not try have a family member then take out the contract and you sign surety if need be? Oh but then you probably have an existing number you want to port to...

Yup it works out cheaper if I get everything in one package as an upgrade vs getting the phone and SIM contract separately.

Guys, I know this isn't quite the right thread, but any idea what I could get for my OP7?
Without posting pics etc at this stage, it's mint, a little over 1 year old, been in a case and with screen protector since day 1, original packaging, accessories etc, Accubattery says 84%.
What do you think?

What BT earphones do you guys recommend to go with the 7t pro, or is it very much personal preference? Is noise cancelling the way to go?

You looking for in ear or over the ear?

If you rooted try viper4android. As far as sound enhancing software goes, there is nothing better.

Guessing around 6k-8k

I'm also considering selling my OP6. It's just such a sweet backup device to have though. Love the thing. Could probably shift it for around 4k...

Looking for in-ear. Haven't got the phone yet, need to phone them again on Monday.

Did anyone here upgrade the option to R50 more for 75min and 1gb data pm? I think I will ask if they can bump me up to that option.

I see the deal on this phone is no longer available online...

Yah so my order was cancelled because the consultant who is in WFH / vacation mode did bugger-all on my order after it was approved 10 days ago

They said it will be escalated to the supervisor and either the supervisor or the consultant concerned will contact me, to which i asked "what good will that do if the consultant contacts me?".

edit: Consultant called me just now, said my order was cancelled due to "fraud" being the reason for the delay and then taking too long hence it expired, blah blah, legacy system. He's going to try get the deal done even though the system shows no stock, his supervisor authorised it or something they will source the stock for me.
