OnePlus 8 series

Also interested in upgrading, currently have the OP 6, very happy with OnePlus products, but their prices have increased vastly since my previous purchase. I'm torn between the xiaomi mi 10 and the OnePlus 8, both at a similar price point but the xiaomi seems to offer more value for money: bigger battery, wireless charging, better camera. Only downside is their software which is poor compared to the oxygen os..
Which one would you guys recommend? Not really interested in forking out the extra cash for the op8 pro..
Latest gen mi 10 and mi 10 pro are great phones, camera is very very good with the pro having a top scoring camera.
Sure the software on the oneplus would be better but they getting better and better on the software side also.
Screen is great and they have amazing battery life
Not a bad phone at all!

Some good arguments, think there is a bit more bang for buck with the mi 10, but a OnePlus is a OnePlus at the end of the day. Tough decision...

I bought my 3T from the Shenzen Pophong store, was a good experience - so this is a good deal indeed.
Yeah. I also got my 3T from them way back when, my first OP phone and haven't looked back since. I reckon you could land a 8 Pro for 15k all in. They usually under declare on exports to minimise import duties.

Decent value at 15k... If you ask me...

The pro is undoubtedly excellent, but I'm getting rid of my op6 for 5k, so the budget is an additional 5k or so. 10k extra is out of my budget, that's why it's between the op8 and mi10.

The 8 doesn’t overly excite me if I’m being honest (and I’m a huge fan of the brand). Maybe I’m too hung up specs?

Know little to nothing about the Mi10 but just looking at the raw specs side by side, I got to say, I’d go Mi10 based on what looks like way better camera optics. The wireless charging and reverse wireless charging doesn’t hurt either. I’d imagine you could source the Mi10 locally which would mean better after sales support?

Appreciate the honesty! Yep side by side the mi10 looks better. But it's crazy how expensive local suppliers are, more than 5k more compared to importing

That's rough. I guess that's the premium you pay for local support? How robust are Xiaomi devices? Never owned one so cannot attest to the build quality. Might be worth the risk to import one..

Touchwood, but every OnePlus I've owned has been absolutely bullet proof out the box.

I never use a phone without a cover or pouch and OnePlus ship one stock and factory fit a screen protector stock, which is a nice touch.

Xiaomi and OnePlus are the same ito quality.

I've got the Mi 9T Pro and it's amazing. Basically a OP7 Pro without Oxygen OS and about R5k cheaper probably.

I really like OnePlus but their pricing has just become ridiculous, just like Apple and Samsung. Xiaomi are the new Oneplus from a value perspective, unless the Nord is decent.

Although few manufacturers will ever come close to OnePlus' software support.

My wife's got the 9t pro, superb device, build quality is definitely on par with OnePlus, only issue is with the in screen fingerprint sensor, which fails more often than it should, and the software, where OnePlus wins hands down. On the issue of harvesting data, Google, Facebook, Apple all do it as well, so by extension, any app you use is going to be vulnerable.

This last Xiaomi episode was on a whole new level, the whataboutism of Google etc doesn't come close.

This is an interesting watch....

Not a Oneplus hater, I owned 3 devices, but this is hype. This Nord is a Redmi on Oxygen OS, alert slider, and Amoled screen. You will get a single bottom firing weak speaker and a vibration motor that isn't.

Well, it's priced to go toe-to-toe with the Mi10 range... Yes, there's a lot of hype. Are you saying it won't/can't deliver? Doesn't look bad on paper... 765G chipset is decent enough and supports 5G, 90hz Amoled screen, decent 48mp shooter off of the 7Pro, 32mp selfie shooter... UFS 3.0? 6gb ram/128gb rom entry level model? I think it will do okay...

Hi guys.

Long-time samsung user here who's looking to switch. I've never imported a phone before though, so not too sure what to expect.

This model is the one i'm looking at, which I've linked from aliexpress. OP8 pro in blue with 12gb ram.

Just want to find out a few things before i pull the trigger.
- Does the dual sim functionality work with these 'global rom' phones? I read that it is disabled in some countries.
- how much customs should i expect to pay
- anyone managed to test out the 5g yet?

Thanks for the help.

I suggest that you check with the seller if it is dual sim.
I ordered my OP8 from aliexpress, the customs was under 1k.
Very happy with the phone. Haven't tried 5G but it is enabled.
