OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

Hi Chris

There is no shaping applied currently.

If you are not getting full speed, kindly email a tracert to www.openweb.co.za to [email protected] along with your ADSL username so that we can investigate

Speeds certainly go up and down. I upgraded from 1mb to 2mb in the hope of getting more than 0.6mb/sec. Was fine on Sunday 1st Sep - up to 1.4mb/sec. But since Monday morning until yesterday am back to 0.6 - 0.7. This afternoon it hit 1.6mb at one point

Is this due to congestion or useage during the week? Sometimes in the morning it is 1.1 - 1.3 but slows down after 8.00

Just an enquiry

Hi Mr Beep,

I'm having a small issue with gaming online with my Xbox 360 and I'm hoping you and your IT geniuses can help. I'm currently on a 2mb/s Gamers King Account. The problem I'm having is that I recently purchased a mic for my console to be able to party chat in-game but it rarely ever works, it works intermittantly. I took the mic to a friends house who's on a 4mb/s with Afrihost and the mic works perfectly. I read somewhere that I need to change my NAT settings on my router but for some reason every time I try to change it, it reverts back to its original. The NAT settings I get on my Xbox is "Moderate". Do any of your guys know how to rectify this situation? My router is a Duoplus 300WR. Does the mic not work because of my net speed? Or do I need to upgrade my modem? Is there any way that you guys can help me out? I know it's off topic but I'd really appreciate any feedback. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Have you tried to not use DHCP and to assign a Static IP to the 360? I am pretty sure I read someone once that this can help with NAT on the PS3, so it might be the same on the 360. I have the exact same horrible router, and my voice chat works 100% on my PS3 with OpenWeb

I'll google how to do that. I read somewhere that I have to change my Pnp (I think that's what its called) settings on the router and no luck there. I'll google how to change it but this router is really entry level and nobody really has any threads on how to change the settings. I definitely have to sort this out as I pre-ordered Cod Ghosts, Battlefield 4 and GTA5. They will be so boring without voice chat

Feels as if there's an incredible amount of slowing down of torrent traffic at the moment. Can't get more than 10kB/s on a 2MB gold uncapped package but youtube and other protocols are operating normally. Seems like a rather heavy hand at the moment for a gold account...

Is something broken?
Gmail is not opening. Youtube is dead, even the Youtube tread on MyBB does not show. Facebook does not open

Fun. Time for my weekly complaint to Openweb. /Awaits getting told account is running perfectly on their side. Or, another port reset is needed

What should the normal shaping of HTTP downloads and browsing during business hours on a 1Mb Standard Uncapped account be?

Just curious since shaping during the day on my Standard Uncapped promo account has gotten so bad
that I often have to use my backup capped accounts.

Torrents back to a quarter of line speed, which is the norm for this account during the day...

What sort of download speeds do you get? I'm getting 15KB/s max.

Under 10KB/s. Not expecting great download speeds as I do not have a Gold account. But I can't even browse and have to use ither capped accounts. Been like this for over a month, and have received the same reply week after week. I must be on drugs.

I've had this issue for longer than a month, but glad to hear I'm not alone here. After around 5pm I can't complain. Download speeds increase to 40-60KB/s via HTTP.

After around 6-7pm, my downloads pick up so no complaints there. I've made that clear though, I only have an issue that my account during the day is not usable. Requested a new account, was denied.

I was moved to this IS Uncapped account from a BCS account. The BCS accounts seemed to disconnect at random times for a few seconds which was no good for HTTP downloads which completely die when that happens.

So even if I could move to another network, I wouldn't, since it's too risky that I might get a dud account as a replacement.

I'm having the issue again before 17:00, on a Gold uncapped account and am being heavily shaped on browsing for some reason. Support changed me over to a new account last week and the issue was resolved for a few days but back again today. After 5 pm it's fine and back to normal but the fact that it takes 5 minutes to load Facebook is just not right....

This is basically what I'm worried about. I don't want to move to another network which works fine for a few days, then worse than the last account.
