Will give it a shot this weekend and report back. I've struggled with Sportsdevil in the past, so this will be a good litmus test...

Ok, so in which of these situations (if any) would this kick in?We used to offer unconditional unshaped Browsing. Some folks decided that it is a great idea to download over the Browsing protocol. The abuse was a very very very very very very very costly affair. We feel this is a fair way of mitigating the abuse.
The policy is very fair. It does not immediately shape browsing. Only if it sees your download persisting, will it affect your browsing. AND ONLY DURING PEAK.
Offpeak you can go monkey nuts and no-one will care.
Blame Telkom. If they drop their IPC rate by 50% these silly policies will not be necessary. They are the thorn in everyones side.

1 ) I leave my torrents or nzbs running all day (I figure they're shaped to nothing anyway during peak so what does it matter?) Surely it's your responsibility to manage which protocols have priority not mine.
2 ) I need to download some important software update or whatever over http during peak, is it really justified to expect me to manage when I do this and make sure this peak time extra potent shaping/throttling isn't in effect?
Or is the policy - oh crap he's downloading over an unshaped protocol, quick throttle that guy we can't afford this? Surely people who aren't abusers, and genuinely just need to update something or download something important get caught in this crossfire and receive a degraded internet experience?
Feels like I've been an innocent victim of this in the past I just didn't know what it was - please correct me if I'm wrong and this only affects people who are actively trying to bypass shaping?

We have created extensive lists of 'legitimate' downloads eg Windows Updates, Apple Updates, Anti Virus etc. If you download these you will be unaffected.
The rule is in place to protect the network and all clients using it.
We refine these rules regularly.
We do hope you are enjoying the OpenWeb Unshaped weekend?
This week was a very interesting one on the OpenWeb front. We welcomed back many clients that left OpenWeb for the cheap pricing offered by some of our competitors. Needless to say, they are VERY happy to be back![]()
Welcome back to the family guys!
nntp really slow for me, half the speed at which it normally runs.

Can I get some advice from you guys please. I need a new ISP. I see Openweb has two specials at the moment being Gamers King and Silver turbo. Both would be the 10mbps acc on a 10mbps line. I game a lot and download about 200 to 300 gigs a month. Which account would you recommend and why? (Both are perfectly in budget)
If you want sexy internet then a gold account is the best around here. So I hear at least.
Its also way out of my budget. Thus why I mentioned 2 which is in budget and asked for a recommendation on that.
