The network is extremely quiet currently, thus any form of slow down is more than likely related to a exchange / line / router fault.

Going at 2mbs (half line speed) here at 5:50am. Im on the 4Mbs Gold. Anyone else?

^^^

Well I got my server PC up so I can essentially que up 100's of downloads and never worry :p
March will be an interesting month for my usage.

My ping is 37. Tracert hops are below 20 and router config hasn't changed. Not sure what the problem is now :/

Hi, I would just like to know what is the technical differences on paper between Gold and Silver accounts. The website does not accurately distinguish between the two in my opinion. I am currently a Gold account consumer, but when I see "Our popular Silver Uncapped ADSL offers clients a low contention ratio (less people sharing the capacity) and superb latency", as what is also stated on the Gold page, I am starting the wonder what the difference is? :whistling:

Don't get me wrong, I am totally happy with the service. I would just like to know exactly what I am paying for. :)

Hi Wackyza,

Our service level comparison chart is almost ready.

The difference is contention ratio. Gold has a lower contention ratio compared to silver. It also receives a higher priority on the network than Silver.

Silver has a lower contention ratio to Standard and Vanilla. It also has a higher priority on the network.

@MrBeep

I sent an email to you yesterday with no reply. I signed up a standard 2mb uncapped account for my mom & the speeds are horrendous during the day. Browsing is a painful experience & torrents are running on snail pace despite over 1000+ seeds.

I know the account is shaped but but shaped to the point where speeds aren't reaching a quarter of 2mb? What really worries is that this account is 2 days old. Is this the norm with standard uncapped?

Are there any local peering issues today? Current ping to hetzner (local):

PING hetzner.co.za (41.203.23.117) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from hetzner.co.za (41.203.23.117): icmp_req=1 ttl=51 time=379 ms

Making it really frustrating to work on any servers.

news server is fine now, torrents still slow but its probably because the news server is taking all the bandwidth

Hey Friends,

Just a quick heads up: Telkom are having issues with 0861 numbers, which is affecting our Call Centre number at the moment.

Engineers are attending.

MrBEEP, I signed up for a silver uncapped account (8mbps) on the special. My friend and I can connect and download concurrently, but he is having serious issues with his internet. See here for his speedtest results (note: line is syncing at 10mbps, and other accounts aren't giving problems). I am currently not experiencing these issues. He is situated in the CBD of cape town. Any idea what's going on?

edit: turns out it was a line issue, rather than an ISP issue. Sorry about the fuss. For the record, on a healthy line, it seems to be flying :) pings dropped by a good 30% at 6pm (they were already pretty decent beforehand)
