Yes, folks on shaped products will indeed be shaped. I'm afraid until Telkom drops their IPC and wholesale costs, this will be the reality we have to live with :(

MrBEEP. What is the status regarding shaping at the moment. I saw reports on IPC being affected in the Gauteng and Northern Region. I've been having shoddy service since last week. This morning speed test was flying, and I'm convinced things might be slow and "choppy" again when I get home.

So what's the status?

Shaping changes every second. The status when I wrote this will be different to the status when I click post.

Right now however, the network is quite busy, thus shaping is being applied.

Downloads during daytime will get the lowest priority. We always advise clients to save their downloads for after hours and on weekends unless they have purchased an unshaped account.

Yebo. I'm just pulling less per day during the week compared to previous months. This is what I meant by usage stats.

Mr Beep
Is Teamviewer also being blocked during the day during heavy traffic?

Hi Batista

No, we do not actively block Teamviewer. However, if the network management system picks up a large amount of traffic passing over this protocol, it shapes it. (Many folks try and bypass traditional shaping by running their downloads over Teamviewer, RDP, even Youtube!) Once a normal amount of traffic is noted, the system unshapes that protocol

Not really what I asked. I want to know why I've been having horribly inconsistent internet speeds for the past week. I had bad and slow speeds over the weekend. Speeds are great when I wake up in at 5am, but it doesn't help me much then.

I'm not even taking about P2P downloads. I'm talking about browsing, and Youtube. Stuff I've never before had any issues with.

So my question was in relation to over shaping taking place. Or is there something bigger going? Am I the only poor sod that's being affected or are you completely oblivious to something else on the network going on?

I can almost say with a 100% certainty that this has no relation to shaping.

The network was completely unshaped for everyone on all service levels from 23:00 on Friday until 8am on Monday.

I would suggest you email [email protected] so that we can perform further tests on your individual setup.

3rd day in a row of slow torrents at <30kbps. Other browsing and streaming is fine. And these are torrent speeds after hours and on weekends (Sunday the whole day). This is a massive difference compared to my first 10 days of being with OW, the last 3 have been sucky. Is anyone else experiencing slow torrents?

Just ran a torrent to test for 5 mins, and I got between 80% to 90% of my max line speed on my 10mb Gamer King account (800kBps-900kBps). On your 1mb line you should theoretically be getting close to 80kbps, if your torrent has enough seeds.

The network does seem to be unshaped though at the moment.. NNTP is giving me a steady 1mBps.

Thanks for doing the test. Well up until Saturday, I always used to get between 90 and 100 and on Saturday, it even went to 103 at one stage and this is for the popular torrents. Youtube and normal streaming works like a dream though.
