If we do not display usage stats under your CP login, it means we are not logging usage for your account. We do not log usage for most uncapped accounts as we certainly do not want to shape you based on such usage (see a competing ISP earlier this month).

Question

On the users.isdsl.net page, I put in my new openweb details but it shows history from the beginning of 2013 but I only joined like a week ago.

Are accounts recycled/shared/pooled or something?

Hi,

Cool, what does it then mean if you are showing usage stats in control panel?

Just want to say the 1mbps standard uncapped I got works pretty flawless on my download pc.... :-) bargain @ R109 p/m

"Hey OpenWebbers! Your weekend will be unshaped from midnight, Friday until 8am on Monday. Fire up those downloads courtesy of OpenWeb!"

:D Cant wait, currently getting 130KB/s on my 4mb line :(

almost 4am, and my download speed is around 20KB/s on a 2Mb line :(

The network was completely unshaped from midnight last night.

Any slows speeds are either caused by your router or Telkom.

I would suggest you switch off your router for no less than 30 minutes then back on

Hey MrBEEP, I was just reading the Terms of Use like everyone does and read clause 4.11 that states the service is usage based. Now I know that you say it's not over and over but I'd just like to point this out.

4.11 The Service is a usage-based ADSL service. Usage is calculated by third party bandwidth
wholesalers, like, but not limited to INTERNET SOLUTIONS and SAIX, and such calculation is
considered as being accurate
. OPENISP CC WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY BANDWIDTH
LOSS OR THEFT, AS IT IS THE USER’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE PROPER MANAGEMENT OF THEIR
USAGE.

Your on your way to a spanking

This applies to our capped products, not uncapped.

The clause is there to remove liability from OpenWeb for bandwidth theft or similar.

Hey guys,

So due to Mweb's recent change of heart - aka throttling their premium uncapped products - I have chosen to switch ISP's. No I didn't receive a letter of abuse, I just refuse to support a company that follows such unethical business practices. I have shortlisted OpenWeb as one of the ISP's I may want to move to. I just require a few answers.

1. What is the difference between their Gamer's Bling uncapped accounts and their Gold uncapped accounts?
2. What is considered after hours?
3. What sort of traffic is streaming considered as? Is it considered download type traffic, or is it considered web browsing?
4. Are VPN's considered abuse?

From what I can tell you no matter what. You won't get a abuse letter or this is abuse or that is abuse. I think its just shaping no matter what you do with your uncapped account

1. What is the difference between their Gamer's Bling uncapped accounts and their Gold uncapped accounts?
Gamer King accounts are blended acounts in that they run on the 'Standard' service level during office hours, and on the 'Gold' service level after hours. Gaming traffic (traffic generated in-game to specific servers, not downloads from Steam or Origin) is prioritized on the 'Platinum' level 24/7

2. What is considered after hours?
After hours usually starts sometime between 17:00 and 17:30 and ends at 8:00 the next morning (Monday to Friday). Weekends & public holidays are obviously included. OpenWeb often announce special unshaped evenings or weekends for all types of accounts

3. What sort of traffic is streaming considered as? Is it considered download type traffic, or is it considered web browsing?
Certain streaming (i.e. YouTube) is not shaped as much (hardly at all) as p2p / NNTP / HTTP-downloads, but other streaming (eg. Vimeo / Facebook videos / cracked.com videos etc) is. Netflix & Hulu run at 480p, and sometimes 720p during the day on my 10mb Gamer King account, depending on how busy the network is. I get 720p/1080p after hours and weekends.

4. Are VPN's considered abuse?
No, but I assume VPNs could be subject to daytime shaping. I don't really use VPNs so I stand to be corrected. SSL NNTP is allowed, and is not shaped nearly as much as p2p during the day, for what it's worth
