Hi Dade,

Our Everyday Uncapped has been launched as a separate product for folks who wish to take advantage of affordable speed upgrades.

However, Everyday Uncapped matches the contention ratio of our competitors. Unfortunately, this product has a much higher contention and lower priority on the network compared to Gold for example.

Many clients do not want their contentions changed, as we all know what happens when you do...

Just noticed the change in uncapped pricing and packages. Looks like OW is following the free upgrade trend?

@MrBEEP: Can you please confirm the price of a 2mb Gold Uncapped Leon account? I'm currently paying R229 for 1mb - can I upgrade to 2mb for the same price next month?

Kindly PM me your username so that I can test your account.

I am not having issues. You are having issues giving me an account that works.
I have had 4 different logins in the past month, and all worked nicely for about 4 days, then fell flat, 5mins to open a web page. Please Mr beep, come clean and tell us what the problem is.
Please can I have the account all the other happy people have, and access to the IS news server, and please, please (beg) can at least open a web page during the day if that is not too much trouble. Thank You, Thank You.

Contrary to popular belief, only around 5% of our client base uses the news server.

We only confuse clients by telling them, "Oh hey, you wont have access to the IS News Server if we change your routing", and they do not use the news server.

It is quite a dated technology, and we have noticed less and less people using it. Therefore I really did not think it was necessary to warn clients.

If you feel this is important, we can consider warning clients in the future, but I do not see this being very successful due to the latter.

would have been nice if you made me aware of this restriction initially. just saying

It may be dated technology, but I am part of the 5% who needs my daily fix of Linux distros..and other things. Any decent ISP will offer a news server as part of the package. I should not have to purchase news server access elsewhere.

I'm currently on a nice 2mbps special & the way things are looking I'll be staying on 2mbps despite speed upgrades. :o

Been seeing a lot of people complain about speedtest. That crap is inaccurate. Where I could download at 90kbps+, speedtest reported a speed of 0.28Mbps. I trust speedtest.net as far as I can throw it.

so the IS news server dated or NNTP as a protocol? i thought torrenting was frowned on.

The IS News server "Rocks". I must agree. Been around since the days when access was via unix, about 25 years now.

Funny enough, I'm one of those people using it less. I still use it but don't rely very much on the IS server as I have a paid sub with another provider. I'm contemplating not renewing that sub though.

NNTP was designed as a news/messaging service (as in brief text articles) way back during the early days of the internet.

People glued a metric crap load of duct tape solutions on to that to make it work for file distribution. You just don't see all the duct tape because modern news clients hide it from you.

As I understand it torrenting would put a heavier load on the ISP because its creating many small connections...most of which are overseas. The IS server in contrast would be 4 (?) continuous connections all of which are local and stay on the IS network.

Edit:
If you are on the alternate network, you can use any of the available news servers.

A free one for example is http://www.teranews.com
* 50MB limit per day & once off setup fee of 3.95USD.

I have often wondered what the real benefit of News servers were. Torrents work more than well enough for me.

I usually get very good speeds on well seeded torrents and I have never been in trouble. This isn't MWEB you know...:)

PS: I found this: https://put.io/
