2mb Uncapped Gold (Leon) - Speedtest takes about a minute to load, Youtube is buffering at 240p. Horrendous, I've upgraded to Gold from Vanilla and my experience is terrible. Oh and don't try to torrent, ever.
Sigh.

Similar experiences on 10mbps Uncapped Gold (Leon). However my youtube streams at full line speed, however browsing and streaming other services (netflix) line speed is only ~1/10th of my line speed.

EXAMPLE:

http://www.imagesource.com/ is intolerably slow, and almost unbrowsable
google maps cannot handle a map of cape town
facebook chugs along at 100KB/s

Not really what I was expecting when I signed up for ~R800 per month.

I'm not sure, undecided, don't think we should derail the thread with these discussions.

This is the second time I've asked for feedback from MrBeep around this in 2 days, silence is deafening.

The support staff Leon / Leoni have been helpful in switching to other backbones with no improvement. They also explained the shaping policy to me. Basically, streaming and browsing are supposed to be "totally unshaped" during business hours as long as one doesn't do any downloads. If one does so, then all protocols are shaped for approximately the next hour.

However, what I am seeing in reality is a totally shaped browsing experience. I can base this on the fact that I haven't been at home all day until 16:15, whereupon I tried browsing. Browsing only. No downloads. Opening multiple tabs (5-6) at a time: cnn.com, imgur.com, imagesource.com - all with the same result; connection shaped to 10% of my line speed.

Pretty sad to pay for 10mbps and only get 1mbps. Why am I paying R829/month for this account when I'm only getting R82.90 worth of service / month?

Got home and saw the red light shine on my router AGAIN... account once again not authenticating. I've mailed support and waiting on them to fix now :-( 2nd time this has happened to me in the last few months

Your Telkom port was stuck on 2Mbps. I see Leon has corrected this for you

Anybody on here using a 4mb Gold (Orange) account, i.e. not the slighty more expensive original Gold product?

If so are you seeing anything faster than +/- 250kb/s at any point of the day on any protocols?

Kindly PM me as per my request yesterday.

I cannot comment without having physically tested your account myself.

Silver Turbo runs on the Silver service level, which is very different to Gamers King.
Hi MrBEEP. I'm still hoping for an answer on this thread: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/564555-Capped-ADSL-from-R3-94-per-GB
Surely if both products are Unshaped, the pricing should be relatively the same? Unless Freedom unshaped has a higher contention ratio - in which case it's not technically unshaped bandwidth because it is contended (As you know, a person who buys unshaped bandwidth should expect full line speed 24/7). I wish to purchase some unshaped capped bandwidth from you guys, but am still waiting for an answer on this. There should be slim no none contention, but I can't justify R29 per gig. Please advise

The Gold Capped has a an extra layer of redundancy, and offers a lower contention ratio.

It also takes priority over the cheaper package, therefore if something on the network fails, Gold clients will hardly feel it.

Silver offers:

* Skype priority
* Download priority AH
* Gaming priority AH

* Gamers offers:

* Gaming priority 24/7
* Network profile tuned for gaming
* Download priority AH

to mention but a few

Still doesn't answer my question... What are the pros and cons?

I'm on the Downloader's Bling package, and its working absolutely beautifully. If I had to rate it, it would be 10/10.

However this has only been the case from mid November. I have had a dreadful experience with them prior to this, to the extent that I actually cancelled my account. Miraculously it vastly improved from then onward.

What I find baffling is everybody pays the same amount for the exact same product, but everybody's experience with it is very different - ranging from it feeling like dial-up to full line speed unshaped; and that's just me - one account over 3 months.

Just thought I'd share my experience with Openweb.

Is there any word from openweb about what is happening with Telkom's line speed upgrade?

Telkom has upgraded my line from 1mbps to 2 mbps. My line is synced at 2 mbps.
I am currently on openweb's standard uncapped 1mbps package.

Will this automatically be upgraded to 2mbps, or will I be required to change my package and upgrade myself onto the 2mbps uncapped package at an additional cost?

You must upgrade.

@nabeeltootla

How do you think will the ISP's benefit from Telkom speed upgrade.
Telkom did rise the bar, now it boiles down are the ISP's geared up due to heavy data fluctuations?
Higher speed more data a given point of time.
More money for the ISP's.
