OpenWeb ADSL Feedback Thread

Kindly PM me so that I can test your account myself.

I have had no joy since I moved to Openweb... I am throttled almost all the time and can barely browse and can never download anything more than a few MB. I mailed support a good few times, they "reset" my account, gave me alternative log in details, etc. but it's so slow and frustrating I rather use my phone and 3G/H+ for browsing, e-mails and even youtube.
I have now cancelled as they can't seem to assist me, busy looking at other isps trying to decide where to move. I left MWEB because they throttled me for abuse (I only use a laptop so if and when I download it's only in the evening), tried Openweb and its even worse than when MWEB was squeezing my traffic through a pin hole.

Trying to decide on Afrihost or Cybersmart or if I should just go back to Telkom....

Kindly PM me with your ADSL details.

There are currently no general issues on the network. Based on how quiet this forum is, and how few support tickets were opened today, folks seem to be very happy.

It also seems like Telkom is behaving themselves for once.

Had the same experience last week and decided to cancel my account with OW, now I just need to ride it out for the rest of this month and next month due to the calendars month notice :o

At the moment, I also cannot connect (Problem started again from 18:30pm today).

Hi

I see Leon is addressing your issue.

I see that they have been trying to get to the root cause of the matter which took quite some time.

What on gods green earth can take 8 hours on an account that has been broken on off from April to fix. Leon did send me a new password but ofc it is STILL NOT WORKING.

He also gave me 60 mins to respond which is nice seeing it was 11:40 and I wasn't actually watching my email for the off chance your support would find it fit to reply to me. I am sitting here like a idiot waiting for leon to reply to me while he is probably snoring in bed like i should be.

you see this is why i emailed you, this is UNACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. You at least let me know your looking into it, You give me a temp account

or

You delete the BROKEN ACCOUNT AND GIVE ME A NEW ONE.

I will ask you now, as you do deliver a service to me that i pay for: how does the CPA bound you? Your service is poor, or in some cases like now non- existent( I can't log on!). I have what a hundred emails to openweb support with very little in the long term resolution in the problems caused by YOUR NETWORK!

*sigh*

Because having staff awake at almost midnight isn't dedication.

Please define your account "not working" as your incoherent rant doesn't seem to make much sense.

If the issue is that your modem will not authenticate the account, the issue is most likely a modem issue as I've had problems with my high end Netgear refusing to authenticate while my Tenda modem I received from OW works brilliantly. How about doing some diagnostics and tests on your end before going nuts on a public forum. You state the issue has been around since April? I doubt that you would even still be a OW client if this was the case as your impatience reflects on your linguistic ability.

Define? look at my post history. Plenty of definition in them I suppose.

oh yeah you can have the friendliest support staff 24/7, if they can not fix a problem that you are having or at least try and provide alternatives then yes it is horrible support. There has been reoccurring problems on my account since i got it, and it has not been resolved. I have gone days without usable internet. I get it fixed for a week then it happens again.

I have 3 modems, None work. One is brand new asus bought 2 weeks ago... I replaced basically everything from my pots to the lightning protection.

Wow you insult me because english isn't my first language. Why don't you rather not post and give openweb a chance to respond to this. I have support emails dating from april. If you think I lied, i would not post here where the guys doing the support can easily just say: he is lying there is no support requests!

I have made my cancellation notice. Till I get out of this deal, I have to deal with this so you can, unless you can give constructive advice - go away.

Edit: I have plenty of patience, in fact from april till i canceled dec 11. May be stupidity too, thinking that hey maybe they will fix my account so I can go a month without having to buffer a 144p youtube video or wait 10 mins for gmail to load in "slow" mode.

have you done any research as to what the issue might be on your end? Does your line lose sync? do you often find problems during or after rain? Does the account just die after a while?

I have called telkom around 10 times on request of openweb, to the point where i requested a technician to come and take a look.

He called me and confirmed that everything, up to my house is working extremely well. He then gave me his cell number and told me to call him should i have any issues with my line.

I have had them reset my ports, that did nothing ofc but then if i connect to afhrihost it works 100%

The line itself does not lose sync, the account dies. It is connected but I get almost no throughput. Today it went from youtube working in hd, then buffering to sd then dead. I connected another old openweb account and I am sure it should not be working but it did connect.

My afrihost works perfectly, like 9ms ping to jhb. Full line speed etc etc

EDIT: there are many people that say that openweb does not work well in certain parts of the country like western cape and in my case limpopo for no reason.

If that is true, why do they not invest time and effort to see if this is actually true and if it is what the cause is. Is it something to do with their account servers, authentications servers or telkom and warn their customers.

We have invested alot of time in researching the matter. The conclusion is the same, all ISP's are affected at different times. Telkom have no explanation for the matter.

I have quickly tested your account on 4 x of our test lines across the country and it connects perfectly each time, producing full speeds.

I myself was utterly outraged at a point toward OW as well but i must say after i sent an email to [email protected] last night, my internet couldn't be better. It's the fastest this internet line has ever performed, so im not complaining at all :D

Thanks to OW for fixing up my internet again, much appreciated.

My internet is behaving itself now, during the week it's been interesting... I'm happy with OpenWeb, especially MrBEEP, I just get very irritated with what happens to my account - it stops working, starts working, stops, starts, I moan on this thread and it comes right.

NNTP (IS news server) a bit on the slow side today. Normally get around 2MB/sec, only running 1MB/sec now.

What the hell doc!? Post a trace route so that we can see what's going on! Mrbeep get on this! *rolls eyes* 2MB/s usually. Lol. Living the dream.

MrBEEP: What did you guys do to the network over the weekend??

In fact, whatever you did, don't touch anything! I'm on a Gold account and it was flying. This weekend was honestly the best network performance I had on OW - Ever!

You don't seem to follow this thread often, do you?

Over the weekends he completely unshapes the network, so you can download like crazy :)

No dude, I understand exactly what they do at night and over weekends w.r.t. unshaping the network.

What I'm saying is that this past weekend, it was going like a freight train. I've never ever before experienced the speeds I got yesterday and Saturday.

Which makes me think - Are everyone on holiday at the coast and off their pc's for a change? :D

Hi FrankyF

I am really glad you enjoyed it.

The network is very quiet currently, so we are sharing the joy with our fellow OpenWebbers :)
