Dude, nothing is stopping you from taking out a special account and cancelling your old one. You're going to pay double for one month, but you can get a special account if you want one.

You honestly can't expect MrBeep to change all of his old customers accounts to special accounts each time a special comes around. OpenWeb still has to make money and these specials are meant to rope in new people.

Firstly I'm not your "dude" :) Secondly I really don't need a retail lesson from you. Point is still valid though. Why do we have to jump through hoops to get some of the great deals that are on offer just because we are older customers...?

Oe, iemand is 'n kwaaitjie kabouter.

There are no 'hoops' to jump through, because there's absolutely nothing stopping you from jumping on the special. You can grab a special while it's there and just cancel your old account. Seeing as we need to submit 30 days notice, you're going to pay for the old account once more, though.

You also honestly can't expect Keoma to change old customers' accounts to special accounts every time a special comes along. Take the 2 for 1 special, imagine if Keoma said existing customers could exchange their accounts for the special accounts. All the existing customers would have jumped for the special, essentially getting a second account for free and leaving none over for new people.

Business 101.

My international internet connection does not even reach half of the expected speed:

Also with a download manager i get around the same speed. I should get two Mbps. It is not the Telkom line because I get 1.76 Mbps on local traffic. I already put in a support ticket but still no answer: http://support.openweb.co.za/index.php?/Tickets/Ticket/View/13883

I had to change my ADSL username for 5 times and it cost me a lot of download speed. I am not fond of getting slow internet after it was resolved the day before.

It is shaping, it normally starts at exactly 8am and lasts till 5pm. I am getting <1m speeds on my 4m gold account. After 5 it jumps to full speed. IS has some congestion problems but are working on it - hopefully when they are done speeds will be better.

Hello,

If your speeds do not return to normal (downloads etc) by around 18:00, then this is not an account fault.

I would suggest you try a different router. Also please take the matter up with Telkom.

I believe we have advised you in the past to do this. We also moved you to three different upstream providers with the same result, concluding it is not an account fault.

It doesn't stop after 5pm

Downloading again at 200 kBps, thanx MrBeep. Also thank you for the advice will get Telkom noticed. btw 4th upstream provider :p.

Sjoe, yesterday, and for one day only, ever, I was downloading at speeds of 100kb/s on my 384 line, it was amazing, i thought i had gone to ADSL heaven. Today it is back down to 25kb/s...wonder what happened and I wish it would keep happening. Anyone else notice dramatic speed ups yesterday (or was it because everyone else was having international connectivity problems and I wasn't) it was bliss for a while.

My 2M gold account seems to max out at about 126kbs/s. I have even replaced my router with brand new kit. What kind of speed should i be getting on a 2M line?

Doc Chuckles, my 4m gold account today max out at 40kb/s to 80kb/s due to the shaping. Seems its getting worse and not better. Only after 5pm does it reach max speeds. Does your speed improve after 5pm?

I'm flying today, averaging during office hours 276 kB/s down from the UK :D

Could be due to the fact that I am 2km from IS's main data center for Gauteng....

just curious, is IS still having issues? latency shot up big time last night around 11PM to the degree that websites would not load.

The latency is shooting up again tonight.

I've been having these slowdowns/outages since Thursday. Disconnect and wait a while (long enough for new IP to be assigned) seems to resolve it for a few hours.

Guys can you guys do me a favour and tell me how mweb and openweb packages compare im thinking of getting a openweb silver uncapped acount???
