Hi TheGrove,

There are no DNS issues currently.

There are however over 72 SAIX / Telkom faults open across the country. The Telkom network is in a terrible state currently, thus folks are having strange isssues.

Hi MrBeep,

I am having an issue with your DNS servers, when I set to 168.210.2.2 and 196.14.239.2 nothing resolves, but if I switch to 8.8.8.8, works perfectly.

Can't ping the servers and nslookup not able to connect to the servers, it happened yesterday then started working again now this morning it is doing it again.

Are IS currently experiencing issues with their DNS servers?

OpenWeb Package : Gold Uncapped

Have not had any issues , besides a few disconnects , which i think is my router ,
Downloads run a full steam at all hours,
Service is great from Openweb , Keoma Wright and his team replies within minutes to queries, keep it up guys
What would be helpful is a download monitor from the ISP

Openweb silver uncapped was working nicely up until about 8:30 this morning (900kb/s), and now nntp downloads have slowed to a crawl (18kb/s). MrBEEP, any idea what's up with that? Tried different servers and ports, no go. Is there some serious shaping going on?

interesting. i left before 8.30 but was flying as well before i left. would indeed be important to know this. i know they prioritize traffic but if its like telkom shaping then they really need to be above board and say so.

Hello

Shaping is based on how busy the network is at any given time. If you you experience extreme slow speeds, this is not as a result of shaping, as we do not shape to such low levels.

Kindly email [email protected] so that we can investigate

nothing extreme here. cant monitor when im at work. which is a shame. but ill keep an eye on it during peak tonight. cant believe this trail account is standard uncapped. performance has been good so far. im testing my normal adsl workload - browsing/gaming/mobile devices/nntp/a torrent for the hell of it. was worried about the gaming but thats fine as well.

Yeah also on Gold uncapped as well, flying until around 8-9am, then dead (IS news server) and from 5pm it flies again, guess one way to get around this is SSL. I think the shaping is a bit draconian, I'd be happy with 100kbps speeds during business hours, but 1-2kbps is ridiculous.

Hello Nduimiso

Our shaping does not 'kill' the connection. I am currently logged on to a shaped service and am downloading at around 45% of the line speed. Needless to say, this speed fluctuates as the traffic on the network gets less or more.

If you feel the connection is too slow, it probably is, and the problem needs to be investigated. Kindly email [email protected]

Well its currently about 1% of line speed so very close to being killed, but I have emailed support in the meantime.

Just to say my bit. Openweb has been super fast on my end for a long time, no issues. Best ISP in town

Hi Mr Beep, I'm having the same problem as many other users. I'm currently on a 1meg Silver Uncapped, and during the day from about 8/9 am, I get 'shaped' to about 2 kb/s on the news server and about to about 1kb/s on torrents. Yet my HTTP downloads run at full speed all the time.

Now this is odd as I originally trialed the standard account for 2 days, and I was never shaped during the day, yet on the higher Silver package I am 'shaped', which doesn't really make sense. Should I contact support?

Thanks

Shows you not to trust trial accounts :p

They have given me a new account with different routing or something along those lines, very good speeds at the moment, hopefully this issue is now sorted :)

Now I am confused. When I reported the same problem a week ago in pm's to mrbeep, I got all the standard replies, from contention ratios to modem fault and exchange congestion. My nntp crawled at night mostly but also now and then during the day from 8, when other protocols were running great. I am on unshaped uncapped 4M Gold. No prob on my line as it is only nntp. Not saying mrbeep did not check my account but I still cannot see how a bad adsl line can choose which of the protocols to "shape".

Well I emailed support last week with the same problem and suddenly it was fixed for the day (torrents were still a no go but I don't worry about that really), then today the same problem with the IS news server, so emailed again and they gave me a new login to try which is working. Hopefully it carries on working. I'd say email support tomorrow, might be better to deal with them directly.
