I'm currently using a 4Mbps Gold Uncapped & Unshaped trial and it's performing really well. News and torrents downloaded equally well at midday. Could an existing user tell me how much normal Gold Uncapped differs from this?

how the hell do you pull 310gb on a 1mb line? you on gold?

Silver.

News server + limited torrents (upload?). Not too sure- that month (Jan) may have been higher due to holidays or something being less congested as everyone chills at the beach...

Still sounds higher than the theoretical limit, so perhaps their measurements are off?

Hi Zewp

The engineers have identified the problem. It should be resolved in the next 60 minutes

Yes, but oddly all my other protocols run fine. NNTP and p2p run full-speed. It's just http that's affected.

what speed do you get on nntp during business hours?

I'm on standard, not even Silver, and I get full line speed on my 4Mbps during business hours if there is something that hasn't downloaded by the time I wake up. It downloads so fast that most of the things that sickbeard gets is already downloaded by the time I make my morning coffee. That said, I don't bother with HD, as I don't have the HDD space, but NNTP is fast in general.

Just went and checked my last few dls and they were all 390KBps - 420KBps.

Then again, the majority of my 100GB a month average usage goes towards Netflix, Pandora and YouTube

Damn! count yourself lucky then. My standard is shaped heavily during business hours.

150GB calls for Standard Uncapped I would say.

You will get great performance out of this account, and a much lower contention ratio.

We do not throttle.

Thanks, i may give this a try. The only thing that bothers me about openweb is this condition on the specials that you regularly have:

* Current clients cannot downgrade or cancel an account in favor of the promotional package, they can however add it as an additional package.

If i sign up for standard this month and next month you run a special on it for say R100 less per month, it will piss me off more than enough to cancel.......

I have a 2meg gaming special package and it is totally useless tonight, cannot play any game without constant disconnects, grooveshark does the same, it buffers a bit then stops and then continues when it wants to. I have opened a support ticket but the control panel says i dont have any tickets.

Ah, yes. Cheers.

Doesn't actually look too bad for a 1MB line.

EDIT: No throttling either. Telkom problems with the exchange are the frustration at this stage :(

1Mbps - 106.25KB / Per Second - 6.3MB / Per Minute - 382MB / Per Hour - 9.1GB / Per Day - 275.4GB / Per Month

this is the figures released by the Internet Service Providers Association of South Africa [ISPA] if your line is running at 100% speed for a month...

Can someone answer this question: why do we not receive full theoretical speed if our connection is slower than the speed that the line is capable of? Ie. what technical limitation is preventing me from receiving 4096kbps if I'm on a 6mb line?

You are only working out the downstream part - that last column is the total of down and up
