Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

I am now connected to your IS account and it is running at 521KB/s on a 4Mbps line. I will now test it in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban and provide feedback shortly.

yes mrBEEP, it was resolved.

But that IS account is terrible once again today. This time it definitely is not my line, BCS performing at roughly 200KB/s on http/youtube, yet this IS account barely does 50KB/s

Switch to mweb account however and I max out 4mbps on http/youtube. This is becoming tiresome and I'm starting to wonder why I am paying extra for this account. BCS works when it wants to and any IS account I switched to was almost impossible to use. If you don't mind, I would like to try out DSL-H again cause from what I remember DSL-H used to be really good when I used it aside from the slightly higher gaming pings.

I have now studied your session log, and have found in an hour, your ADSL line lost sync to the exchange 6 times.

I am now connected to our Cape Town test line using your account. The line is 6Mbps, and I am downloading at 524KB/s on a 4Mbps account. I will fire up a torrent and provide the results shortly

Yes it lost sync 6 times due to me switching between DSL accounts (netgear resyncs upon entering new dsl details). I am back on BCS and it seems fine.. other than some screwy http speeds now and then.

I have even tried my D-Link DSL-2750u router to no avail. I am not a hater of your service and I have referred multiple friends to you, but I cannot understand how between MWEB and that IS account you gave me, I get max speed on mweb for BASIC HTTP downloads whilst on IS i could not even download Dota2 on steam @ above 50KB/s.

I will switch once again to this IS account and provide feedback in an hour.

Seems like the account is performing pretty decently now. Youtube is a bit slow but its much better than before and I'm getting about 100KB/s on some HTTP stuff (400+ with download manager). Thanks MRBeeP. I just hope it stays like this :-P

Anyone else on the @openweb.co.za backbone having issues streaming?

YES

bbc.co.uk/news videos don't work, neither does twitch.tv. Any youtube video not chached locally you can forget about :(

HTTP downloads and torrents maxing out my line easily though, pings to games servers 8ms.... weird.

Any ideas Mr. Beep?

Hey Friends,

Are you still having an issue with this?

If so, please email [email protected] with some tracert's so that we can log a fault with IS.

Hi

Just providing some feedback on my weekend experience playing Dota 2 on a 1Mb Uncapped Gold, playing on EU server.

During gameplay i would experience major spikes, especially in gangs.
I then switched over to my FNB account, rejoined to the same game.. spikes were gone.

Youtube over this weekend was shocking, i had to literally wait 10min for a 1min video to buffer enough for me to watch it.
P2P was running fine, no issues at all.

^ when i play or stream youtube, the P2P downloads are completely off.

what is happening.. this time last year i remember i could stream 720p youtube off the bat, no pausing, nowadays its i gotta treat this account like its a 384kps.

I am currently thinking about asking to change backbones but would first like to find out what backbones are still offered? There used to be altec, VB, web africa, bcs and Is. Which of these are still offered? I know that Openweb recently stopped offering VB accounts.

@KoKaRoT
When I first got my Openweb gold account I could also stream HD content without any issues but I have not been able to do that in a long time. Even normal 460p vids are touch and go.

As far as I know, only IS, DSLHeaven BCS are still being offered. Having jumped between about 6 accounts in the last month, the only options I was given was one of those three.

The IS account I got last week is finally behaving nicely now, though. Haven't had any complaints about it all week. Didn't really use it over the weekend though, so I can't comment on its performance over the weekend. All in all, I'm pretty happy again.

For those on the BCS network, can you talk about your experiences?

All we want is fast http, I've heard of ppl griping about Steam and other things like p2p.

We just want fast daytime http.

I can't really remember what HTTP was like on BCS, but Steam rarely opened and p2p was pretty much dead all week long. I considered myself lucky if I got anything over 2kb/s on torrents. On weekends P2P ran fine for the most part.
