Got my response.. switched to BCS and all is well![]()
Well apparently the 130 gigs that I've downloaded this month aren't sitting well with OpenWeb and they say I should rather go with after hours uncapped at R899. I have no idea what this has to do with being throttled during office hours though, as the IS account was always throttled even before the 130 gigs, and the gigs are only downloaded during off peak. Cancel time.

First time I've ever heard them mention the [term describing the amount of data transferred] word on a Gold account...
Ask perhaps for a new account.... I had a bad IS account last time (throttled to 30% of 1Mb on all protocols) but on a "new" one now and I have don't see any issues with anything bar nntp.
I've asked for clarification on the matter so we'll see how they respond. But so far it seems paying a premium for Gold is just not worth it, for me at least.
Just to confirm... you're on IS Gold atm, correct?
I am still waiting for response
Yep, IS Gold.
Then according to OW's FUP, in MrBeep's words, "you can download as much as you like, taking into consideration the shaping of heavy download protocols".
I've done 30GB on my 1Mb since Monday 7am and I haven't been hit with a throttle, so maybe you just got hold of a crappy account (I've had it happen to me: change to new acc on same backbone and no problems anymore).
At this point they haven't even suggested a new account yet, they're basically trying to convince me that being throttled to 20KBps on all protocols (normal browsing during the day) is called shaping and is normal on Gold 4meg accounts.
If they don't have this sorted by tomorrow night then I'm going to be seriously pissed off.
I was told over and over it's fully unshaped and uncapped after hours (19:00-07:00).
@lightningsux, mine was also working fine previously, but so did all my other IS based accounts until I was flagged for downloading.
What do you mean by "flagged for downloading"?
