guys I am so lost here. I currently have 100GB of unshaped bandwidth from Afrihost and the speeds are great for downloading and for gaming, now should i get a uncapped Silver package from open web or not? or should i just stay with afrihosts package...

Well if that 100GB is sufficient for you on a monthly basis and you don't require more than 100GB, then I don't see the need for you to get an uncapped silver account. :)

What Stonecold said.

If I can add...
You have a 1Mb/4Mb line, right?

Compare the prices you will pay for Silver in comparison to your current package and then weigh the effects of unshaped vs shaped-uncapped.
I've had great gaming experiences on all OW's packages, it's mainly the downloading that's different - it not being unshaped of course.

I'd personally give MWEB a try whippey - I've currently got 3 uncapped accounts (dont ask): Mweb 1mps, OW Silver 1mbps, OW Gold 1mbps and out of all 3, MWEB is the best for me - low latency, decent speeds on torrents and I haven't had as many network hiccups as I have had on OW (BCS/DSLH)

Well.. i signed up for OW silver, then there was an OW Gold special so I signed up for that but have to wait 30 days for Silver to be cancelled, which is why I have two OW accounts. Then my OW gold was giving me crap and OW responded by telling there are network problems, so I decided to give the MWEB Trial a go, and MWEB was far better than any of the OW's I'd tried so I decided to stick to them :) I do a lot of remote work via SSH and I need low latency.. mweb was by far the best.

Well, checking that Mweb feedback thread, it's not all sunshine and roses either. Trial account might be fine now, but let's see after a month or two if it's still the best ;)

Indeed.. but as their radio ad says - if i don't like it, i'll just switch again :-) I'm 2 weeks out of Trial now.. and still all good

i habe a 7mb line and mweb charges 2000 for a uncapped line..ill stick to capped.

thanks guys

Throttled to a standstill on Openweb Gold. There is no way I have done more than 10gigs....it takes me a full day to download 1gig at top speed on my line. So why bother. I live in Randburg, and thanks to Telkom I can only get a slow 364k line. The nearest exchange is across the road, my nearest exchange is 6km away.....so when my line gets throttled I would get faster speeds on dialup. It's unreasonable.

Just wanna say that MrBeep contacted me a few mins after my email to him. He has asked me to try a possible solution, which as of yet I have not done, I will try it at peak time tomorrow. But the point is, I dont think anywhere do you get the personal support and such quick support as Openweb. I mean for goodness sake, the CEO flipping helps us out, which other company do you know with that kind of personal service.

I will keep you informed as to my problems, but really again, the backup service is flipping amazing (excuse my use of the word flipping, trying not to swear lol )

why not go for 4mb uncapped, seriously, the speed for gaming is not an issue as much as ping is. And the 4mb is good for dling. I have 8.5mb line and really happy with 4mb

If you don't mind poor performance during office hours you should take a look at the OpenWeb after hours uncapped account, R899 but runs at your full line speed 7pm-7am and all weekend...

I have a uncapped after hours 4 meg account and normally on holidays it goes at full speed througout the day but its only doing 20k or so.
