Openweb uncapped ADSL feedback

Between which hours do your speeds decrease, more or less? Want to see if it matches up with my experience yesterday

I don't think there is any way to be 100% certain, but I used to be on standard uncapped before I switched to Gold, and shaping on standard was terrible. I used to get 2-3kb/s download speeds during peak hours, which went up to a maximum of 6kb/s after-hours.

Between 8am and 5pm I get no more than 20KBps. At 5pm, on the dot, without fail, it jumps to 475KBps.

It took me the whole of yesterday to download one episode 330mb(12+hours) and during the the night I downloaded 7 complete episodes(12 hours). The irony is, the7 could have taken whole week and not faze me.While that one I was standing and waiting by my PC. to finish.Epic fail "gold “imo.

Sounds like you're on the wrong backbone. Instead of complaining, email MrBeep instead and ask to be moved to a different network.

I tried them all, and have not seen a difference, they all suck during the day.Not contacting support again. Will wait till the month is finish and see what the grass looks like on the other side.

Hello efitol

Please email me [email protected] with your ADSL username.

I would like to investigate this matter as this is not how gold should perform.

Wow. After hours and during weekends, the IS network is fine, but during the day it's a real piece of crap. Horribly slow browsing speeds, incredibly slow downloads.

Many international sites take several minutes to open.

Having that some issue today. Last week it was perfect, now, not so much. Cant even get into GOOGLE. LOL

Touch wood but I am still getting full speed on IS during the day and night. Granted I don't download 24/7 but when I see something I need/want I download it at full speed. Streaming video is also perfect on IS as well as gaming.

Even if we download 24/7, it shouldn't be an issue because as Gold subscribers we are not subject to any rolling windows or throttling.

Yup, after hours my account flies. It's only during peak hours when downloads are pretty much awful. Once that clock strikes 5PM, it's back to normal.

I'm getting the exact same issues I had last week Thursday; slow speeds, Steam not connecting, etc. It's supposed to be afterhours now. This is clearly very heavy shaping, or something.

I don't even want to send in a ticket because they're probably just going to tell me the fault is on my side again.

I am not very happy.

Edit: Did a factory reset on the router, and it seems to be working. For now.

Also did a reboot but news is crawling along, maxing 35k/s on a 1mb line.

during the day I'm lucky if it gets to 5k/s.

Thats not shaping thats killing.

Not really what I'd call gold.

RDP once again impossible on my IS account. Had to switch to a capped Mweb account just to do maintenance on the server.

There is something very wrong with the openweb.co.za network during the week.

Hello,

The Gold network is not shaped at all after hours. If you are experiencing a problem, please email [email protected] so that we can resolve the issue.

Most issues are related to Telkom ports / or line errors, which can be resolved by a port reset. Generally, if you switch off your router for around 20 minutes, then back on, you will notice your issue has resolved itself. Im afraid as an ISP, there is not much we can do about these issues, as they are related to how Telkom manages (or does not manage) their network. It is unfortunate though that the ISP is blamed first.

By switching to a different account, you are effective doing a mini port reset, as a new session is created with Telkom. Instantly your experience improves and you then unfortunately believe it is the ISP that is at fault.

We monitor our networks very closely, and when a general problem is picked up, we will immediately notify our clients. Right now however, all networks are running as they should.

Graal, I mailed you this afternoon. I have not yet had a response from yourself. Please read the email and respond.

Efitol, I cannot recall receiving communication from you after my request yesterday. Has your issue been resolved?

Clearly there is an issue with your router or line. If this was shaping, it would have immediately forced your speeds down when you reconnected. No amount of rebooting will change this.

The network is not shaped at all. Shaping is infact switched off entirely after hours. It is the core of how we setup the system.

We run around 10 different accounts on different lines across the country at any given time testing performance of all kinds. Torrents, p2p, news, VPN, RDP, Browsing etc. When we pickup a problem, we attempt a resolution immediately.
